A few years later, as he was teaching, he put the window down, because there were workers outside doing construction.
A few students pleaded for the window to be put down. But the noise was too much. So a certain student got up, Alicia, gets up, and shouts to the workers asking them to move because they are trying to have class. And to everyones surprise they do. This intrigues John. Then before the class ends he writes an articulate problem on the board and challenges the students to solve. The next day Alicia comes to see John to discuss the problem, then she invites him to dinner. The two eventually fall in love and then
marry. Now fast forward two or three years. John takes a return visit to Princeton and he runs into his old roommate Charles and meets Charles’ niece Marcie. He also runs into a mysterious man who works for the the Department of Defense. His name is William Parcher. He recruits John to help with cracking a complex encryption of a enemy telecommunication. John is asked to decipher/solve codes mentally. Parcher oversees John’s work from above. That’s why he is known as “Big Brother”. He makes John drop off assignments at different locations. In mailboxes of larges houses. One night in particular, where Parcher urges John to jump in car just as he drops of a code answer. (Bender actually followed John here.) John and Parcher were being chased by the Russians and exchanging gunfire. After this John becomes distant and extremely paranoid. Alicia soon sees John erratic behavior, she is desperate for help so she informs a psychiatric hospital. So later while John is delivering a speech John realizes he's being watched by a harsh looking group a people. John tries to flee, but is forcibly sedated and sent to p psychiatric facility. John believes the people a the psychiatric facility are soviet kidnappers. Alicia is desperate for help for John so she visits Bender and Sol, Bender takes her to the mailbox and sees the codes. She then visits John and tells him the truth, that these are hallucinations. (William Parcher, Charles, and Marcie) John finally Comes to realization that it is hallucinations. After John receives multiple shock therapy sessions, John is released but only if he takes his meds. Although the drugs have some very negative side affects that badly affects his relationship with Alicia, and his intellectual capacity. John gets upset so he secretly stops taking his meds which cause him to relapse his psychosis. One day while John is bathing his infant son he gets distracted. And he eventually wanders off past an old shed outside their house, which John had been using to crack conspiracy theories and things of that sort. Alicia (who had been hanging laundry outside.) then discovers the shed and she runs to the house to get John and nearly saves the baby from drowning in the tub. She confronts John about the things she saw, when she does Parcher threatens to kill Alicia. John, trying to save Alicia, accidentally knocks over Alicia. After that Alicia flees the house with the baby in hand. Moments later John realizes the truth about the hallucinations that they are just that hallucinations. John goes and steps in front of the car to stop Alicia. John finally says goodbye to Marcie and Charles and thanking them. He ignores them to focus on other things. Nash grows old and asks his old fri-enemy, Hansen, who gives him permission to work in the library. John still suffered from hallucinations. But he took it one step at a time. Eventually Hansen gave him teaching privileges. He is honored by his fellow teachers for his achievement in mathematics, and goes on to win the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics for his extraordinary work on theory. Nash and Alicia are about to leave the auditorium in Stockholm, when John sees Charles, Marcie and Parcher standing and smiling. Alicia asks John, "What's wrong?" John replies, "Nothing." With that, they both leave the auditorium.
