seem to correlate with climate change but is very hard to prove; this might be the case for California’s drought and their wild fires. There is also great opposition to climate change and it is clear from John Steven’s article why; for some it might be hard to connect the facts of natural disasters to climate change but they have to realize that natural disasters correlate to climate change. Climate change has been an issue in the world, which results in areas prone to flooding to have more floods and flooding to have more disastrous implications than before.
In John Steven’s article he writes, “flooding already happened in Louisiana, but climate change has made it more likely to happen, and has made it more likely that the flooding will be more destructive.” Many places have regular flooding which are already devastating, but due to climate change these floods are becoming more common and at the moment are devastating but soon will be catastrophic. Justin Worland writer from Time magazine illustrates “Sciences report from earlier this year determined that climate science has advanced far enough that researchers can now accurately determine how global warming affects extreme temperature events, as well as drought and extreme rainfall.” Due to climate change the weather is not only horrible but is getting worse due to the world becoming warmer, and is causing extreme weather. Justin Worland also illustrates “Climate change increases the intensity of precipitation because warm weather leads more water to evaporate forming wetter clouds.” The warmer weather due to climate change has allowed for clouds to be able to store more water and when it’s raining season; the clouds release the abundance of water they have stored and release the water, resulting in flooding’s. This wont change, storms like the one that caused the flooding in Louisiana wont come to a halt, they still will occur. Its something that humans now have to get prepared for and only hope for the
best. With temperatures rising in the world not only do we have to pay for the hotter summers, but the arctic which is being melted due to climate change. Slowly but surely the arctic will be melted away by the increase of hotter weather in the world. Steven notes that, “Climate change is faster and more severe in the Arctic than in most of the rest of the world. The Arctic is warming at a rate of almost twice the global average.” Although many places might experience climate change different from the arctic, the polar ice caps are being melted at a quick rate and it’s very alarming to think that the ice caps have melted simnifically in recent years. Justin Gillis writer from New York Times illustrates that, “The number may sound low, but as an average over the surface of an entire planet, it is actually high, which explains why much of the world’s land ice is starting to melt and the oceans are rising at an accelerating pace.” As the polar ice caps continue to melt the ocean levels will only continue to rise and lakes and rivers will only continue to flood and cause damage near the lakes and rivers. Another issue that climate change has risen is the severe drought in California and the wild fires. John Steven writes that, “But the California fires haven't made experts so hesitant. There has been a 500 percent increase on these events in western sates since the 1970s, and climate change has been directly blamed for the droughts that lead to this devastation.” California for the most part has seen its fair share of rain but in the past years there has been severe droughts which has resulted in dryer land and the easier for wild fires to begin or spread. “If we think of precipitation as an income for California, natural variations — evaporation, human water use — are expenses. Then we can think of global warming as a bully that comes by every year and tells you to give him a certain amount of your money. And every year, the bully asks for more and more.” According to Brian Kahn, climate change and the heating of the world is allowing the clouds to evaporate more water storing the water but the droughts and the heat won allow the clouds to release the water, causing California to have dryer seasons; but never giving us the rain when we need it. This has allowed land to dry and spread throughout the state and giving wild fires the ability to expand and creating a dangerous living space for the people of California. It is astonishing to think that many Americans such as politicians(Republicans) believe that climate change isn't an issue and don't think to acknowledge the studies that many scientist have used their whole lives to conduct the studies of climate change. Hiroko Tabuchi writer for the New York Times states that, “The Trump administration’s proposed cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency budget are deep and wide-ranging. It seeks to shrink spending by 31 percent, to $5.7 billion from $8.1 billion, and to eliminate a quarter of the agency’s 15,000 jobs.” As our new president takes office, he has decided that major cuts need to happen and one place that he’ll be making cuts will be the EPA. As he decides wether to make these cuts he is eliminating important and valuable jobs that allow many scientist to conduct important studies on climate change that favor the world. Michael Barbaro writer for the New York Times writes that, “President Trump went to the headquarters of the Environmental Protection Agency to sign an executive order on environmental regulations. That executive order directs the agency to begin the legal process of repealing and replacing the clean power plan, the centerpiece of President Barack Obama’s policies to fight global warming.” Against the fight for global warming President Barack Obama made a policy with environmental regulations that was a major step forward and the fight against climate change. Now that President Donald Trump is taking office, a firm disbeliever of climate change has signed an executive action that eliminates environmental regulations, now allowing industries and companies to continue to pollute the world without any restrictions. Many feel that climate change is not real or doesn't have anything to do to the rising temperature in our world. That the world has done this on different occasion and will continue to do this. It’s nothing new that politicians, religious believers and some scientist have come to the conclusion that there is no climate change and that the rising temperature is not due to human activity. “A 2012 Purdue University survey found that 47% of climatologists challenge the idea that humans are primarily responsible for climate change and instead believe that climate change is caused by an equal combination of humans and the environment (37%), mostly by the environment (5%), or that there’s not enough information to say (5%).” Purdue University’s survey shows that 47% of climatologist don't believe that humans are the sole reason to climate change. Although their studies show that human and the environment are both to blame other studies show otherwise. “A survey by German Scientists Bray and Von Storch found that 83.5% of climate scientists believe human activity is causing "most of recent" global climate change.” It’s difficult to see that as the years have come human activity do play a big role in climate change, but human are a big reason we have climate change. And in recent years our society’s have evolved and the need for energy sources lead to using energy sources that emit pollution into our climate. There has been many efforts made by our new President, Donald Trump to cut money being allocated towards environment protection aka climate change. He and his administration believe that climate change is a hoax and that the government does not need to pay money towards something that is not real. “We're not spending money on that anymore; we consider that to be a waste of your money to go out and do that.” They believe that this money is not being used to its best of its ability and would love to allocate that money else where such as the military or elsewhere were. But as their efforts in dismantling the environmental protection agency enhances, studies have shown that climate change is an issue and should be treated with diligence. It’s very difficult to see our county being lead by a billionaire who says has no intentions in helping himself or his fellow billionaires. “It is difficult to get a man to understand something “climate change” when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.” If Donal Trump really cared about the environment and the people of the United States he would not want to dismantle the environmental protection agency, he would do with all his power to protect the environment. But that wont happen because his cabinet and many friends/donators will lose money if the environmental protection agency sets retractions on the usage of coal, oil and natural gases they will lose a lot of money. So theres a lot at stake here with this new administration and the environmental protection agency, Trump believes that climate change is a hoax because he and his affiliates will lose money.
