One day before leaving work, Billy Coleman spots a Redbone Hound being attacked by a mob of dogs. He gets them away and taking the dog to his home nurtures him/her before letting him/her free. This makes Billy remember his childhood memories of his Redbone Hounds. Billy Coleman, along with his 3 sisters and parents, live on a farm in the heavily forested Ozark Mountains in the Great Depression. Billy’s dream is to own not one, but two Redbone Coonhounds, and train them to be the best hunting dogs in all of the midwest. His father tells him that he can’t have Coonhounds because they are very unstable financially and if he really wants them that bad, he needs to work for them himself. He then goes to his grandfather’s shop and is told that if he can save enough money, he will do the rest to get him his hounds. After two long years of dedication and hardwork, Billy finally has enough money to purchase his hounds and goes to his grandpa’s store. His grandfather gives him good news that the price has gone down and sends a happy Billy off with 10 extra dollars and some candy which he shares with his sisters. Billy travels to get his dogs, soon named Old Dan and Little Ann inspired by a tree and trains them to tree and catch raccoons with the help of his grandfather, his motivational figure because of his encouragement for Billy. His dogs become very good and enter in a competition in which they win but his grandpa also gets injured. The climax then occurs when Billy is out hunting with his championship hounds. They are assaulted by a mountain lion and Old Dan gives his life ( and entrails) to save Billy, who kills the mountain lion to “avenge” him. His mother tries everything she can to save him but it is no use and they bury Old Dan. Little Ann then loses the will to live and they bury her right next to him. Their family decides to move to the city because of all the money that they won in the competition and Billy goes to see his hounds…

He is a boy who doesn’t really know much about life or what struggles people go through and encounter during their life. After a while, Clint is left in the café while John goes to the interview. When John comes back he is full of disappointment and finds Clint is alone, and the bait has been stolen from a ‘hungry tramp’. In a long shot, John runs after the ‘tramp’ after seeing him digging into their bait. John seems very heated and shoes intense signs of stress, because of all his failed interviews which therefore resulted in him not getting the job. John starts to get aggressive with the ‘Tramp’ e.g. fighting him. The camera angle is very affective here because we realize that he is having a massive revelation. This is symbolic off the problems we all encounter in life and how we deal with them. The two shots of John and the ‘Tramp’ powerfully show that this is a serious matter but the scene also shows that poverty is slightly different for everyone and that there are many types of levels to…

Looking up, he could make out the white, balding head of Mrs. Francis, slipping back into the safety of her little box home and was suddenly aware that from an outsider’s perspective, he probably looked crazy. Hell, he probably was. Any sane person, after all, would have given Fido nothing but a passing glance before returning to less morbid curiosities. Mrs. Francis and the lack of appearances from his other neighbors stood as a testament to that. But, he felt an accord with this dog’s small, beaten down body—so much like his own—that he just couldn’t bring himself to walk away, not yet. The answer formed before his mind had even begun to scratch the surface of the question and with a sense of clarity that had alluded him for years. He was going to bury the…

John and Kathy’s love was based on secrecy. Communication was discoursed by both of them when ever the other tried to come clean, as to suggest the truth was too much to handle. Kathy hated politics and seemingly wanted John to lose. She knew about the spying and secretly kept a grudge for making her abort unborn baby. When she tried to confess this to john, John brushed it off and prevented the confession. This speaks of John’s dear of loss. He might have known that what was coming would shake the relationship so he chose to keep living in deceit in hopes that he may never lose Kathy. This fear of loss goes back to the lose of his father. When john’s father died, he was not hurt the way you might expect. It seems almost as if john missed the concept of having a father figure rather then his actual father. This becomes clearer when it seems like john remembers an idolized, generic version of his father unlike the real one.…

In the story their is a dog whose name is patch and he is a good dog, but then turns bad, and when he turns bad he gets greedy. For an example, all the dogs got biscuits but he was mean to them so he would get them first, and he would eat all of them. This shows greediness because he wanted all of them and he only needed a few. After this, the farmer was making some some meat for his family, but the dog came in and took the meat from him. Then he ran away with the meat for him to eat. As you can see he is greedy because he had his dog biscuits but those weren’t enough for him so he took meat. One more reason why he wasn’t appreciating what he had is, once he got to a place to stop and eat his meat he sees another dog with meat and in the process of trying to get it he loses his meat. Once again he was greedy, because he could have been good with what he had, but he needed more, and because of that he ended up with…
