John Winston Lennon was born to Alfred and Juila Lennon on October 9th, 1940 in Liverpool
England. John was Named after paternal grandfather and the prime minister at the time,
Winston Churchill. With his parents messy relationship, and his father never being around. His aunt, Mimi Smith, complained to the Liverpool Social Services, causing Lennon's mother to handover the care of John to her. Throughout the rest of his childhood he lived with his aunt and uncle. John regularly visited his mother, who taught him how to play the banjo, and bought him his first guitar at the age of 15. When John was 17, his mother was struck by a car, and killed. September of 1956. John first met Paul McCartney at The Quarrymen's second performance, afterwards asking Paul to join the band. The band began to rehearse at Paul's house, and during this time, John wrote his first song, Hello Little Girl, at the age of 18.
The Beatles

Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Stuart Sutcliffe. In desperate need of a drummer, they asked Pete Best. They traveled to Hamburg, Germany for a residency. When
Stuart Sutcliffe decided to stay in Hamburg, Paul McCartney took over bass, and Ringo Starr replaced Pete Best on drums. The band released their first single Love Me Do, in October
1962. The other Beatles idolized John, looking up to him. After all he was the oldest in the group, and very much the leader. The Beatles starting to achieve mainstream success in the
UK during the beginning of 1963. Eventually in February 1964 the group appeared on The Ed
Sullivan Show marking their breakthrough to international stardom. Being unknowingly introduced to LSD at a dinner party Lennon had attended, lead to a long road of drug use.
Which was more apparent with the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band which revealed Lennon's lyrics, that strongly contrasted with the simple love songs from The Beatles early years. After experimenting not only in drugs, but in music with his second wife

After moving to London with his wife, Lennon released his debut solo album, John Lennon/
Plastic Ono Band in 1970. Featuring lyrics inspired by his emotional memories of his past. His album Imagine was released in 1971, the album title track later became an anthem for antiwar movements, and is one of the best known songs still to this day. After moving back to the states and living in New York, he released Happy Xmas (War is Over). After having legal battles for citizenship in the US and his separation for Yoko Ono, he moved to Los Angeles.
Only later to return to New York to record his album Walls and Bridges. His only numberone non Beatles single Whatever Gets You Thru the Night, featuring Elton John, was part of the album, which was released in October 1974. He eventually reunited with Yoko Ono, after having his second son, Lennon decided to take a break from music and raise his son. In
October 1989 Lennon emerged from retirement with his single (Just Like) Starting Over, following with the album Double Fantasy a month later. On December 8th 1980, John Lennon was shot in the back of the head four times by Mark David Chapman, who he just earlier autographed a copy of Double Fantasy for.
