Johnny Cash Research Paper
Johnny cash is one of the best artist of all time. Johnny as a successful singer/songwriter for over 6 decades, influencing people and the music industry. Not only is he in the Country music hall of fame but the Rock & Roll hall of fame to. Johnny started playing music in the age where rock & roll was just being discovered. The music style Johnny had was country, rock, gospel, and the blues.
Section 2: On February 26, 1932, in Kingsland, Arkansas a legend was born named Johnny R Cash. His parents Ray and Carry were poor cotton farmers in a very rough stage in history. The cash family moved to Dyess, Arkansas when he was just 3 years old. President Rosevelts new plan gave the cash family 20 acres to farm. At the age of 5 Cash started to help his older siblings on the farm. Cash allways looked up to his older brother jack who played a very active role in the church. Jack was killed by injuries from a saw mill one hot day. This really shook cash up. It was said that cash even dug his brothers grave before the funeral. The death of jack gave Cash inspiration to start singing. This is when his music career started. While working in the field he allways heard the negros singing their blues. He met up with two car mechanics that formed his first band. The guys at the time would just play at there friends house for fun. It soon started to become more than just family fun. Cash allways dreamed of making it big in the music industry but how? Cash allways heard Elvis Presley on the radio. The radio is where Cash knew he could get his name heard. Cash and the guys went to sun records for a chance to sing. Sam Phillips owner of sun records gave them a shot at proving their self. Sam Phillips liked the raw voice of Cash but the lyrics weren’t just right yet. Cash took his advice and started working on some new lyrics. The song “Hey Porter” was a result of the trios work. The

    Many people knew Louis Armstrong as the “first real genius of jazz”(Shipton 26). He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 4, 1901. Louis was the illegitimate son of William Armstrong and Mary Est “Mayann” Albert. He was abandoned by his father, a boiler stoker, shortly after his birth and was raised by his paternal grandmother. Then, at the age of five, he was returned to the care of his mother, who at the time worked as a laundress. Together with his mom, they moved to a better area of New Orleans. Mainly, he would sell newspapers and deliver coal. Also, he would sit on the street corners and sing for loose change. Armstrong then dropped out of school after the 5th grade and ran into a little trouble with the law. He was arrested for firing a weapon in a city and was sent to the Colored Waifs Home for one and a half years, where his musical career really started(“Louis Daniel Armstrong”). Thanks to his childhood, and his involvement in music, he became one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time and a singer responsible for the development of major trends in pop and jazz music(Tirro).
