This book starts out describing the characters in detail, explaining the family that consists of Tito, Mina, and Jimmy, in which Jimmy is the older brother of these two. The story basically comes right out of the gate with Jimmy getting killed in a drive by, but no one knows why. Some think he might’ve been affiliated with a gang, some think he might’ve owed money but no one knows for sure.
My first impression on Jimmy was a bit skeptical because he just didn’t seem like a normal guy because of the way he acted. This book is a lot more violent than I thought it would be with the the gunshots and the gang talk, but I realise that this stuff happens in real life sometimes. This book has changed my thinking quite a bit about how a dangerous gangs can really be, not that I would ever join a gang, but this book really served as an eye opener. Because I already knew gangs were not a good thing to get into I would also say that it supported my opinion about gangs. This book has done nothing but make gangs seem worse to me.
My positive comment of this book would have to be that I respect Tito’s perseverance after Jimmy died and getting through it, and that it was an overall decent book. My constructive comment would have to be that the gang talk and violence was more than I expected and I thought it was excessive. I probably wouldn’t recommend this book unless someone is having problems being in a gang, because this book was no better than decent and
