1. Abstract The fast food industry is a robust market to enter, let alone be competitive in. This case study will take a look at a corporation that started as family business, but today, is a major global competitor. The Jollibee Foods Corporation is a fast food chain originated in the Philippines and is the vision of Mr. Tony Tan Caktiong. His corporation is built on the core values better known as the "Five Fs"; friendliness, flavorful food, fun atmosphere, flexibility in catering to customer needs, and a focus on families (Bartlett, 2011, p. 34). Mr. Caktiong, just like many other business owners in the global marketplace, realizes the challenge of expanding into the global market while maintaining his corporation 's prominence in its home market.

I have selected to discuss the McDonald Corporation, which is also known as “The Golden Arches” and “Mickey Dee’s” as my main organization topic. Some of the main reasons for this organization being my chosen topic is because it is one of the most well known global largest chains of hamburger fast food restaurants, in which it is known for serving over 58 million customers on a daily basis. Customers can visit this fast paced organization in over 119 countries and there are over 31,000 restaurants worldwide which employ over 1.5 million employees. Jollibee was a company originally established by the Tan family in 1975 as a family-owned ice cream parlor in the Philippines, but was soon forced to change its market caused by the oil crisis of 1977 - a factor which would have inherently caused the price of ice cream to double. Already established in the food industry and having overcome the initial barriers faced by those entering it, the Tan family successfully diversified the company to selling sandwiches. From that point, Jollibee began expanding their success by launching a total of five stores by 1978, founding what we see today as Jollibee Foods Corp.…

When analyzing the case study it is clear that Jollibee Inc. has higher pressure to respond to local wishes in Philippines due to the entry of global giants like McDonalds. This is due to the fact that Jollibee had a strong presence in Philippines but at the same it should tackle the adaptation pressure from McDonalds. This is also supported by the fact that Jollibee was franchising their brand to foreign countries on very strict terms which do not allow any changes to the menu.…
