John and Patsy Ramsey, JonBenét’s father and mother, called 911 in the early morning on December 26th, 1996 to report that their daughter had been kidnapped. Patsy had woken up that morning to find a ransom note entailing that the Ramsey’s must pay the kidnapper $118,000 if they wanted her to be returned to them safely. JonBenét was found that same day in the basement of the Ramsey’s Boulder, Colorado home. According to Mark Beckner, the police chief in the Ramsey case, the crime scene was mishandled most likely due to the confusion at the scene and the way the police department was short-staffed because of it being the day after Christmas.
