Why Jose rizal wrote the poem The Song Of The Traveler?
Answer:
José Rizal was a true Filipino, but he was also educated and acculturated to the European lifestyle and mindset. Imagine for him the feeling of returning from affluent and privileged society in Europe to his impoverished homeland, the Philippines, corruptly administered under Spanish "frailocracia" where the native Filipinos were treated as as inferior race of "indios".

In his thoughts and writings he often straddles a difficult to reconcile line between the perspective of colony and colonizer. But in the end, to the Europeans, even his friends, he may have only represented little more than a curiousity, being educated and extremely articulate, but still an "indio" and an alien. Likewise, to the Filipino people, he had become something alien through his cultural and educational experiences that distanced himself from the perspective of his own mother culture.

It is a beautiful poem because it captures so well the loneliness of an immigrant. In your new home you may never truly be accepted as anything more than an outsider, yet the culture you will inevitably adapt to will mark you for life in your perspective so that you can never return to your country of origin and fit in as seamlessly as you might once have done. In the end you are simultaneously a native and a foreigner to both nations.

His sad conclusion is that once you begin your travels, your choice is made. Once outside of the circle, their is no way back inside:

"Pilgrim, begone! Nor return more hereafter,
Stranger thou art in the land of thy birth ;
Others may sing of their love while rejoicing,
Thou once again must roam o'er the earth"

    The movie “Jose Rizal” is all about our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal – Hislife and works, his struggles in order to free his countrymen from abuse, until his death under the hands of the Spaniards who occupied our country for a very longtime. Most of the scenes of the film took place during Rizal’s imprisonment at Dapitan wherein he meets Taviel, a Spanish officer, who will eventually defend him on his trial in court. During their meeting, Taviel asks Rizal everything about him and his works through various questions. Every answer that Rizal brought out from his mouth made Taviel realize that Rizal was indeed an innocent man. On the course of their conversation, Rizal talks about the making of his Two Novels “Noli Me Tangere” and its sequel “El Filibusterismo” which are both anti-Spanish Novels that depicts how the Spaniards rule the Philippines and how the rights of the Filipinos were abolished. Rizal portrayed himself on the said Novels – as Crisostomo Ibarra on “Noli Me Tangere” and as Simeon on “El Filibusterismo.”Going through with the movie, while Rizal is telling his story to Taviel, the scene on the movie switches from his life story then to his portrayal on his Novels. Sometimes the scene gets very difficult to follow because of the sudden switches during the scenes on the movie most especially during the time that his first novel was on the process of writing. Rizal, a brave and a man of his word, was never afraid whatever theconsequences he may suffer because of his writings that are against the friars and also to Spaniards. His goal was to free the Philippines from the unjust government of Spanish colony. In summary, the movie talks mostly of Rizal’s life until his death and the creation of his great novels. The actors and actresses who acted on the movie did a great job presenting how it was during Rizal’s time even though the said events in Rizal’s life were just written in books.…

    The fourth chapter of Quibuyen’s “A Nation Aborted” explores the meaning of Rizal’s intellectual work by scrutinizing the fusion of Rizal’s biography and history. Quibuyen begins his chapter by refuting what Austin Coates and Maria Guerrero have said- that Rizal inspired the Filipinos to make the first revolution in Asia single-handedly with ideas all his own. Quibyen presents in this chapter two crucial things to consider in interpreting Rizal’s work: (1) Rizal’s ideas that embodied like a form of debate and also the Blumentrit (2) Rizal’s vision and nationalist projects and how it affected Filipinos’ thoughts and feelings. Quibuyen mentions lots of personas such as Father Jose Burgos, Grciano Lopez Jaena, Jose Rizal Andres Bonifacio ,Apolinario Mabini, Antonio Luna , Marcelo H. del Pilar, Gregorio del Pilar, Emilio Jacinto, among others who were destroyed by the system they wished to radically transform. He further said that they were consumed by the intensity of the struggles. Quibuyen only contention is to prove that Rizal was not the only one who contributed for what we do endure in the present.…

    The Philippines also known as “The Pearl of the Orient” like all other great countries had difficult beginnings. Andres Bonifacio and Jose Rizal two of the proponents that instigated our great struggle for freedom, they who reminded us of the pride and strength of a Filipino, they who showed us that we are people who will never give up and will fight no matter what. One became the voice of the people; leading the propaganda movement that inspired the nation to fight against the tyranny and, the other became the leader of the people “The Supreme Leader” that thoroughly ignited the flames of revolution. Jose Rizal wrote and gave us hope; he preferred the pen over the sword while Andres Bonifacio gave life to that hope. He fought and bled for our freedom and instilled in our hearts, our love for our country. Well it is true that Bonifacio has somewhat got this idea of freedom from Rizal but it is Bonifacio who put it into action, what is an idea without an action? . . . action speaks louder than words of ideas. Bonifacio was not chosen as our national hero because the Americans are afraid on Bonifacio's way of liberating our country. The Americans want to colonize our country but in order to fulfill this dream there should be a man to be catapulted from below in order for us to have national hero. Our national hero serves as our idol, and as an idol we must follow his steps. The Americans chose Rizal because he is a reformist; a reformist is not a hindrance in their colonization. Since Bonifacio is a separatist, he is a thorn in their throats. Reformist seek only for reforms but separatist seek for FREEDOM!. In our eyes Andres Bonifacio is the true hero of the Philippines.…

    Then began a new era for the Filipinos. They gradually lost their ancient traditions, their recollections, -- they forgot their writings, their songs, their poetry, their laws in order to learn by heart other doctrines, which they did not understand, other ethics, other tastes, different from those inspired in their race by their climate and their way of thinking. Then there was a falling-off, they were lowered in their own eyes, they became ashamed of what was distinctively their own, in order to admire and praise that was foreign and incomprehensible; their spirit was broken and they acquiesced.…

    I’ve just wondered about what he concentrated, our “forgotten” history. Because of this, we are continuing losing and losing our sense of identity, our “being Filipinos”, and Filipinos as one. Among those who conquered us was just a true reason why we are now. Different styles on how they treated us made ourselves different that resulted to a trouble in terms of finding our identity. This is a big issue to us because others think it is not. Because I believe, those people who criticize it immediately are the one who’s Constantino pulled his thoughts.…

    II.a. Rizal's multifaceted aspects include his skills, talents and knowledge about poetry, painting, academics, medicine, philosophy, history, law and international languages. These aspects only prove how intelligent and gifted Rizal is even more when he wrote literary articles to attack the Spanish oppressors in the Philippines. Rizal, as a student, manifested proficiency and excellency because at a very young age, his mother was teaching him basic skills like reading which is very important in his foundation in being such. He excelled in every class he was in except when he entered the university run by the Dominicans where blood prevails more than performance. As a son, he showed his deep love and reverence for his father by simply obeying what his father tells him. For instance, when he took the course his father wanted him to take. As a brother, Rizal also showed his trust, dependence and love for Paciano. He treated him as his second father for the fact that they have a very huge age gap. They were always by each others' side. In fact, Paciano is the first and only person who knew about Rizal flying in to Europe. As a friend, Rizal expressed his loyalty and friendliness. He gained so many friends and acquaintances in school and even in the foreign countries. One great example is his friendship with Blumentritt. They write letters to each other when they want to discuss about important matters and their closeness reached to the point wherein Rizal gained support for his novel from Blumentritt. Also, he had a great friendship with Taviel despite the fact that he has a Spanish blood. This shows how good Rizal is in making friends. Rizal, as a patriot, served as inspirartion for many Filipinos during his time. At a young age, he was already awakened by the abusive treatment of the Spanish regime to the Filipino people that was why he vowed that one day, he would compensate to what they did to his fellowmen. He served as the model to the…
