Joseph Delaney Ignorance Is Bliss
Ignorance is Bliss

My auto-biographical narrative Ignorance is Bliss is written in contemporary context but set in Nazi Germany. The text presents the idea that ignorance may seem the better option in the moment but in the long run will make a person hate them self.
It targets adults because it is directed to encourage adults to not blindly live their lives and let issues pass by but to act now. Also, people interested in the Holocaust are among the audience as it
I chose to imitate the style of Irish English Teacher and author of the Wardstone chronicles, Joseph Delaney. Delaney is known for his first person point of view writing and his concise sentences. His sentences are plain and generally not flowered with fancy words, this lets the reader decide how

We called ourselves Christians, and I believed myself Christian, but i’m not sure anymore. The churchgoers heard stories of what was happening to the Jews, and yet we pretended we were oblivious. There was nothing anyone could do to stop it so we would try to distance ourselves from the tragedy that was happening.

In front of the small church ran a railroad track. One Sunday we heard cries coming from the train. I vividly remember the first time I heard the train pass by; first was the whistle, and then the wheels hitting the tracks.
Finally, were the cries. The Jews were being carried like cattle in cars! The screams and wails were etched with agony; so full of pain it was almost emanating from the train. It felt like an eternity before the train passed by and I felt sick to my stomach.

As the Sunday’s continued to arrive, so too did the train. We anticipated with fear the sound of those wheels because we knew what came along with them. What disturbed us was knowing the final destination was a death

Peter Schultz, a small twelve year old Jewish boy living in Opole Poland and his parents Mayo and Levi Shultz lost everything on the 23rd of January, 1943. They were stripped from their home and put in a crowded ghetto. In the ghetto, their clothes were taken and they were given a onesie with stripes and on the right arm it had the star of David. They were put in a small house with twenty five others. The floor was covered in fresh slippery blood. Peter was very frightened at the sight of the small house and all of the very slim, bony people living inside of it. There were about twelve little kids, one boy Peter’s age, and the rest were adults. Peter was shivering, unable to sleep because it was extremely cold and he was given no blankets or pillows. He missed his home, but at least he had his family. The next morning he woke up early to find that his parents and all the adults in the house were gone. Peter now lost everything he had, he had no idea what had happened to them. He went to talk to the kid his age for answers.…

The feelings of anxiety, deception and suspense are three of the many words used to describe the Holocaust. Source B revealed how genocide was demonstrated in the Holocaust by providing evidence of classification and preparation. Likewise, Source C, a poem written by Pastor Neimoller, in which he describes the fear that the people felt when groups of Jews were disappearing each day. The day they came for them there was no one left to take a stand for the minority. In a similar way Source D, “The Terrible Things” by Eve Bunting, delivers a similar explanation by a group called “The Terrible Things” that caught groups of animals living in the forest one by one. Although when they came for the rabbits there were no other animals left to stand up for them. Exposing to us how in a similar way the Nazi’s would diminish the Jews rights though they had done nothing and no one said nor did a thing to prevent it. Therefore, the segregation of the Jewish people, also known as the Holocaust, is identified as the responsibility of the people.…

When Adolf Hitler declared all Jews to be vanquished, the German soldiers would take Jews from the ghettos and take them into these small, squared and empty train carts. These carts were about as small as a normal restroom. They squeezed 80 people in to one cart. They had no room to move, not even room to move their hands, barley enough room to sit down so most of them stood for days and they were only given small amount of bread and water. There were no toilets, so they defecated on the floor.” There are eighty of you in the…

The Jews had to go through terrible atrocities. They were being treated terribly, but they stood strong against the cruelty. The Jews enduring those terrible acts show how, even while being treated at the lowest levels humans can still persevere, retain their humanity, and live on. This is shown through how they kept their faith, how they treated each other, how they pushed on while being treated like animals, and how they kept on living and pushing on. All of these claims can be explained and supported by, Elie Wiesel's Documentary, his memoir, Night, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, and the official documentary of Night and Fog.…

The Jews had to endure so much for many years. They were separated from their families, starved, and beaten. Even today, we keep all the Jews who lost their lives in the Holocaust in our hearts and in our prayers. I hope this paper was a good source of information on the Holocaust, and about the brave survivor Agnes Tennenbaum. We will continue to tell the story of what the Jewish had to endure, and of the tragedies of the…

The purpose of this experiment was to separate and identify the two unknown compounds. The sample used was 105 and it contain 2-propanol and 2-heptanone. IR spectrums were taken of the contents of the second and sixth test tubes and showed the presence of an OH functional group and a small amount of ketone in test tube two and a large presence of ketone in test tube six. The average boiling points of the test tubes, 73°C and 162°C respectively, were compared to the boiling points in the tables of alcohols and ketones found in the back of the lab manual. Test tube two was comparable to methanol, ethanol, 2-propanol, and 2-methyl-2-propanol. Upon inspection of the IR spectrums, 2-propanol was a match.…

It would take six million life times or more to replace the lost love of those murdered within the Holocaust. However despite the incomprehensible disregard for humanity witnessed throughout the persecution of Jews, not all had their lives taken from them. Many Jews fought back and whether they succeeded or not- they didn’t go down without a fight. These are a few of many stories in which Jewish citizens used hope and determination to their advantage, to fight for their survival and through resistance, have an impact upon the Holocaust.…

I began to try to awake my father, but he still didn't open his eyes. Then I gave him a hard smack on the cheek, and he finally rejuvenated. Adding to ignorance’s power lies its ability to inspire us to progress, and project us further. Filled with so many uncertainties, modern life can seem daunting, and people try everything they can to understand its secrets. Their lives become dedicated to philosophy of the unknowable, and they create their own ideas on what’s true. They strive, they struggle, and they dream for the truth; yet in the end, they end up fully believing the false conclusions they arrived at. They have created their own facade over life, shielding themselves from the same truth they lunged for; sadly, they are now completely ignorant that the truth remains there at all.…

Life under the constant, careful watch of Hitler and his minions has not been easy for my family and I. Traveling from place to place and never knowing what to expect next. We’ve been one of the few fortunate ones, being able to stick together throughout these troubled times, despite several life or death moments; somehow my faith in G-d has remained intact. It’s a shame all of these acts of hatred could be inflected on a group of people solely because they believed differently. Before the war, no one gave it a second thought to my being Jewish. I was just Sarah, a sister, a daughter, a friend… but things started changing quickly in Germany, so quickly it’s all just a blur in my memory now.…

Every sight, smell, sound, feel. The agony of waiting in the emergency room as her father and sister struggled to explain what had happened. Their mother had suffered a stroke, a devastating one, which claimed three-fourths of her functioning brain. She didn't want to believe it. These stories are now captured in many written forms around the world. But, the stories live on and are told by families and friends directly effected and impacted by the activities that took place during the Holocaust. However, there are those in denial that the holocaust has never occurred and that it is a conspiracy. In Germany and some of the areas surrounding the country the Holocaust and the atrocities committed against the many people persecuted and killed was denied for decades. The need for the stories of the holocaust to be shared is so that such a tragedy never occurs again in the world and that the ideas that spurred the genocide are publicized as a way of prevention. People from all walks of life are moved by the endurance of the Jews and their resilience. As a way to guarantee that stories of the Holocaust are told, in many areas around the world, there is a law passed requiring the topic be taught. In researching this topic and gaining an abundance of knowledge, there is an even greater appreciation for the need to have the Holocaust taught in every school around the…

Many people looked on, others watched from a far in a tree or another hiding place. But, many didn’t intervene with the affairs of the Nazis and German Officials as they rounded up their friends and neighbors, put them into ghettos, and ultimately killed them. Few people tried to save the unfortunate Jewish people, and some prevailed, while some met the same fate. This wicked act of Jewish extermination not only occurred in Germany, but it effected places all over central Europe. With this in mind, a priest named Father DuBois ventures far to uncover the eye witness accounts of the devastating attack on the Jewish population and publishes in 2008 a book called: A Priest’s Journey to Uncover the Truth Behind the Murder of 1.5 Million Jews, The Holocaust by Bullets.…
