Dr. Joseph S. Francisco, University of Nebraska –Lincoln is an amazing physical chemist. Dr. Francisco is known for his unbelievable outstanding awards Guggenheim Fellowship Sloan Fellowship, 2007 Herbert Newby McCoy Award (Purdue), Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award (Purdue) ,2010 American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 2013 US National Academy of Sciences, 2006 William E. Moore Distinguished Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and Chemistry, 1991, 92 Summer Faculty Fellow, Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology much more and accomplishments of publishing textbooks.
Joseph Francisco was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on March 26, 1955.
He was born to Lucinda and Joe Francisco’s. Joseph happen to grew up in Beaumont, Texas under his grandmother care . As he was growing up in Beaumont, Texas, his opportunities were limited because of him being an African American male. His life consisted of day-to-day tasks and was never about future planning. College wasn’t even a task, so he never paid much attention to it. Despite the uncertainty, his grandmother, Sarah Walker, who was a strong woman and a great role model for him, was supportive and encouraged him to get an education. He attended Forest Park High School University of Texas, and graduated in 1977 . A chemistry professor, named Dr. Raymond Davis gave him the first step. He singled him (Dr. Francisco) out from a class of about 350 students to conduct study as a freshman with math students and post docs. Working in a laboratory was very important because he was being groomed and nurtured to go to graduate school. Francisco’s research caught the eye of Australian professor who invite Francisco to do research back in his home country. “Going abroad would change the whole sense of how he’ll would have been looking at science and not only with the environment,” he says. Davis, also Francisco’s college adviser, then encouraged him to go on to graduate school. After earning a doctorate in chemical physics at MIT, he continued his work as a post doc at Cambridge University in the …show more content…

“This blessing was when he actually develops the network of colleagues he collaborated with internationally,” he said . This was when he got to use all the skills he has learned and actually put them to use. This has carried over into his leadership, as the College of Arts and Sciences is working with scientists in Spain and France. “
Joseph S. Francisco was President of the American Chemical Society from 2009-2010. He served as the William E. Moore Distinguished Professor of Physical Chemistry, and, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was President of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers from 2006 thur 2008. He is likewise a kindred of the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Chemical Society, and a Guggenheim Fellow. He was honored an Alexander von Humboldt U.S. Senior Scientist Award, named a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bologna, Italy; Professor Invite at the University de Paris-Est, France; a Visiting Professor at Uppsala University, Sweden; and a Honorary International Chair Professor, National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan. He was chosen as the Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2010 and was chosen individual from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 2013. He additionally got Honorary Doctor of Science Degrees from Tuskegee University in 2010 and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2011. He was designated to serve on the President's Committee on the National Medal of Science for the period 2010–2012 and 2012–2014. President Barack Obama appointed Dr. Francisco as a member of the President’s Committee on the National Medal of Science serving the term from 2010-2015
Research in Dr. Francisco's lab focusses on fundamental studies in spectroscopy, energy and photochemistry of novel transient species in the gas stage. These species assume a vital part in air, biochemical and ignition forms. However, addresses managing how structures associate to reactivity and photochemical components have not been tended to for these frameworks. These problems are tended to by inspection endeavors in the research center. Particular exploration regions of hobby are: Spectroscopic determinations of electronic and vibrational moves in free radicals; Measurement of the energy of individual gas-stage response steps including free radicals in complex response instruments; and Characteristics of essential photograph substance forms that free radicals can experience.
Theoretical and test strategies are utilized helpfully as a part of amplifying spectroscopic data on these species.
We will likely utilize best in class atomic orbital strategies to foresee the properties that can be utilized as an aide as a part of the trial seek. Utilizing an assortment of high determination laser methods, for example, laser-prompted fluorescence, vibration and electronic discharge, multi-photon and UV assimilation spectroscopy, we intend to make spectroscopic estimations for these novel species in the gas stage, and completely describe them. Dr. Francisco has distributed more than 400 diary articles, composed nine book sections, co-created the course book Chemical Kinetics and Dynamics, and served on various national science committees.
Joseph Francisco has most as of late been designated as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Ellen Weissinger, senior bad habit chancellor of scholarly undertakings declared this arrangement of Dr. Francisco as dignitary of the college's biggest school. "As a specialist and a teacher, Joe has shown the most elevated amount of execution at each phase of his vocation and he has an uncommon ability for rousing greatness in others," Weissinger said. Dr. Francisco will start his new obligations on July, 1, 2014. Dr Franciso seeing a lot of this work in a different image
