Joshua: a Parable for Today
In Joshua: A Parable for Today, written by Joseph F. Girzone,
Joshua is explained as a carpenter, from Bethlehem. Mark 6:3 - Is he not the carpenter,* the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. ("Scripture." Scripture. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Dec. 2012). He repairs wooden objects and he fixes broken items, and makes toys for the little children. He is also described as a thoughtful and sharing man, who cares about others before himself. In the book it states how he broke a piece of bread, and handed it to a random person who he doesn’t know. Matthew 26:26-While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” ("Scripture." Scripture. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Dec. 2012.) Joshua felt strongly about religion. Mark 14:34 – 36; 39 -41Then they came to place named Gethsemane,i and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while pray.”
34 Then he said to them, “My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch.”
35 He advanced a little and fell to the ground and prayed that if it were possible the hour might pass by him;
36 He said, “Abba, Father,* all things are possible to you. Take this cup away from me, but not what I will but what you will.”
38 Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.”
39 Withdrawing again, he prayed, saying the same thing.
40 Then he returned once more and found them asleep, for they could not keep their eyes open and did not know what to answer him.
41 He returned a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough. The hour has come. Behold, the Son of Man is to be handed over to sinners. ("Scripture." Scripture. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Dec. 2012.) Some ways which Jesus and Joshua have in common is that they were physically similar. They both were skinny, and were

    Joseph Francis Girzone is a priest. Advised by his doctor to withdraw from administrative work, he immediately set about a new career as a writer and philosopher. Though only 54 years old at the time he wrote the book, his experience as a priest had been unusual. He worked with teenage gangs in New York, and in the local mining area of Pennsylvania. He taught in schools most of his life, and worked in parishes at the same time. He was chairman of a government human rights commission which settled a jail riot and mediated racial tensions in public schools. On numerous occasions, he was called upon to negotiate in prison disturbances.…

    For my response to be to Joshua is that he would have to ask his parents about what is going on. Due to I am not on your case I am not aware with what is going on with your care plan. If you would like Joshua I can go ask the doctor who is on his case to talk with you and your parents about your care. Also, I can not discuss what is going on due to you’re a minor and your parents have control with what is happening with your care and what we are allowed to tell you. Due to the ethical standing Joshua I am not allowed to discuss your care with you unless I have your parent’s permission and if I was on your care team to know what is happening. With this response I am following all the ethical principles by being fidelity, non-maleficence, and beneficence.…

    In order to fully understand this book, I thought it was a good idea to know the background information. Further looking into this, I really got intrigued by what I found. James was the brother of Jesus and the leader of the Jerusalem council. I found it interesting that at first, James didn’t believe in Jesus and even challenged Him and His teachings yet later on, he became very prominent in the church. James was also one of the few select individuals Christ appeared to after His resurrection. I thought that it is important to note this transformation in his life following the resurrection of Jesus. I believe that his life can most definitely serve as an example to other non-believers of what is possible after faith in Christ is confessed.…

    I submit to you my brothers and sisters that little is much when God is in it. He will take the foolish things of this world and confuse those that say they are wise. Think about it! God used the sound of wind blowing in trees to scare an army of trained soldiers! They were so panic-stricken and confused that David and his men were able to overtake and kill them all. God used the trees to distract them, and then He sent his angels in to fight for David before David even lifted a finger. All David had to do was obey the Lord instructions and God gave him and unconventional victory!…

    The first 39 books of the larger work called the Bible, is called the Old Testament. The Bible itself is arguably the best selling and most read book of all time, yet it’s well known to be quite challenging to read through and understand. The Old Testament portion of the Bible, notably the most difficult portion of the Bible for most to study and follow, yields 39 books from multiple authors, and spans over 4000 years of crucial world and church history. If that were not enough to take on, the Old Testament comes our way through multiple styles of authorship and formats, including but not limited to, books of history, law, proverbs, ethics, philosophy, treatises, dramas, songs, epics, biographies, and letters. There have been many books written and published to survey, explain, and/or bring to light the Old Testament, but none more helpful to me than the review subject of this paper, the work of Dr. Elmer L. Towns, entitled “A Journey Through the Old Testament”.…
