Content analysis is a qualitative data analysis method that start with a theme of idea that is expected to emerge from the research and then searching for the pre-identified themes and ideas in the research data that has been collected. In the journal article, the researchers identify original studies from 10 leading leadership journals and coded the data according to a pre-agreed protocol. The method of analysis is effective for the type of research since it is consistent with the type of data that was collected. In addition, content analysis allows for both qualitative and quantitative operations utilized within the paper. Based on my knowledge and understanding of research I believe that grounded analysis would have been better suited for the study. This is because, contrary to content analysis, grounded analysis doesn’t start from a defined point but rather lets the data speak for itself by allowing themes to emerge from the conversations and discussions. The research dealt with vast amounts of research data that may make it impossible to pre-determine all themes. However, through grounded analysis, the themes will be coded as they emerge providing sufficient room for the identification and classification of all relevant ideas. Despite the fact that grounded analysis would have been better, the methods, procedures, and instruments were perfectly explained. However, no statistical descriptions were given while the validity of the two frameworks incorporated in the study was not
