Journal Article Review week 4
I choose the article What Research Says About…/ Differentiated Learning because this is a relative topic that teachers are implementing in the classroom. The article states how teachers are dealing with students that are not only different due to cultural but most importantly, these students are on different cognitive levels. The research in this article goes on to tell us how beneficial it is for students to be meet at their zone of proximal development. Some of the examples that are stated is grouping students for instruction and responding to students learning style. From both of these methods they have seen improvement in children academic achievement. The sole purpose for differentiated instruction is to receive an appropriate education in an inclusive classroom. Reading this article I form my own opinion, I believe that it stated great ideas on how to ensure that each students is making educational success. For example, in my own classroom I have my students divided in to 5 groups that rotate through 5 different centers this way I could focus on what each students needs on a smaller scale. One thing that I believe this article leaves out is how hard it is to create a system in a classroom that works so that students on all levels could work independently. I know I personally work every day to try and improve my system. I try to color code everything this way my students know they must complete the task with the same color marker. In my classroom I am lucky enough to have an instructional assistant, I image that it is even harder to accommodate all the needs in a classroom with large class sizes. Sharing this article to my colleagues will motivate them to work even harder because they will see that their efforts are beneficial to their student’s success. I think it is important for teachers to be enlightened on the fact that backs up the teaching methods. Knowing this information about differentiated learning I will continue to use

In the video Differentiated Instruction at Jeff High School, teachers and students talk about their experience with using differentiated instruction in their classroom. In the video, teachers at Jeff High School described the benefits of differentiated instruction in their classrooms. Throughout the video, teachers praise the use of differentiated instruction and how such a method has helped them to reach out to their their students different pathways of learning and utilize their strengths in their own multiple intelligences to make material seem interesting to them. The video described some examples of differentiated instruction in the classroom. A 43 year old woman had a mass in her right thigh for approximately one month before she went to her doctor. The doctor gave her an examination and found the mass to be firm, painless, and stationary. He then followed up with ultrasound and MRI testing. The results reveled the size shape and location of the mass. Surgery was scheduled to remove the mass. When it was dissected a gel like substance spilled out indicating a ganglion cyst. They did a microscopic examination of the cyst and it showed a dense fibrous wall.…

“In programs based on the traditional model, CE is provided in a group. The children work collectively to monitor and to encourage each other. Conductors lead the group and provide a motivating and supportive environment. Educational goals are determined by the general ability level of the group and by the performance of each individual.5 Group activities are highly structured and are broken down by task series into a series of steps. Each step represents an intentional activity rather than an isolated exercise. Task series are built on the premise that the tasks start within the child's ability level and then progress in difficulty culminating in a functional independent goal.”(Darrha et al, 2004, p.187) I agree with him because I notice that learners become more relaxed when are working in groups so they can share their information and the activity that they get, must be not the same like one size fit them all it must be different, teacher must do it step by step so can help those struggling…

The article I choose was Why Most Rational People Must Disapprove of the Invasion of Iraq. This article relates to the golden rule theory and talks about how the U.S. was in the wrong for invading Iraq when they did. It also talks about the just war theory where it is said that you are justified to act upon war if a country or allies has suffered military attack or is about to suffer a military attack. The U.S. was not in an immediate threat from Iraq so we had no reason to send troops in we can argue that there were Weapons of Mass Destruction. However, as the article says that them having WMDs has been refuted by the best evidence. So then we talk about the golden rule, when using the golden rule we are saying that the US attacking another country that did nothing to them. Then you could say it is okay for another country attacking the U.S. for no particular reason. The article says that if you would have thought it to be morally permissible for the US to preventatively attack a country then it would be ok for another country to attack the U.S.…

The learning journey undertaken by each learner is different as everyone has different learning needs, speeds and styles that can be influenced by personality types, this means it is vital to plan differentiated learning outcomes to meet the needs of higher level learners, ensuring they are not held back, this has to be done while making sure slower learners are not left behind. Differentiated learning is crucial in order to ensure ‘all’ learners successfully complete learning outcomes and reach their full potential. To achieve this I will continually assess progress, gain and give feedback and provide extra support where necessary.…

    Response to Intervention

After spending the past school year studying RTI Strategies for Secondary Teachers by Susan Gingras Fitzell, I have developed a sense of understanding of differentiated learning and teaching using strategies that best fit the needs of the student as an individual not as a class of all students. From the first day of learning this statement holds true about response to intervention at being a way of “responding to the struggling learner with academic interventions that match the student’s needs” (Fitzell, 1). Throughout this school year many concepts have become an insight for me. Some of the most meaningful concepts for me were the differentiation needed in the tier one classroom, different grouping strategies, and the math interventions.…

Today, children are coming to the schools with such wide spread levels of preparedness, emotionally, socially, and academically. Our challenge as a teacher is to meet them where they are and give them the tools to learn to their highest potential. We must be skilled with differentiation to meet the varied learning styles, and have the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students who need remediation and keep our brighter students enriched and challenged. Our…

Reflect for a moment on your own classroom environment or on a favorite classroom environment from your own schooling. Are there (or were there) clear rules that emphasize what students should do rather than what they should not do? How will (or did) it change student performance? Are (or were) students called on equitably? How does it (or did it) change the learning environment? Do you greet each student (or were you greeted) every day? How will you make sure your classroom environment will promote student responsibility, self-awareness as a learner, and learning for the satisfaction of learning?…
