Dairy Entries Dairy Entry 1 – Explain where in the past you travelled to 28/02/24 Dear Diary.

My name is Professor Sharon Jung and I am the first person in the WORLD to travel through time. I have been studying Ancient Greece for some time and I have been waiting for this moment for AGES. With all my courage, I took a deep breath and stepped into the time machine. 448 BCE As soon as I stepped out of the time machine, it was as if I was walking into a whole new world. Loud, busy and dirty. The streets of Athens, or Aktaio as you may call it in Ancient Greece, were amazing. Buildings completely made of marble, people everywhere, it was a fascinating place. The fact that people were able to live without electricity made my head spin. No phones,

If you were wealthy enough, you could ride horses, but most of us walked around. Although this city wasn’t that big, it was peaceful and this city flourished. I looked around and saw barely any females. I remembered from my research that women were to stay home and do household chores. I rapidly disguised myself as a male. I wore a tunic, and a wide brimmed hat to hide my face. As I examined every little thing I could see, a trembling slave came up to me. “Oh, dear sir, please help me. My master is about to whip me.” I couldn’t think of anything else, but to run with the stranger, holding his hand. We came to an alley, and after checking several times that his master was out of sight, the slave sat down. We looked at each other and we both gasped. The kid was so young. He only looked like a teenager. When he saw my face, I thought about all the things he could have been thinking of. “You’re a girl” he blurted out. I quickly covered his mouth and whispered. ‘I’ll help you if you don’t tell anyone that I am a girl.’ He slowly nodded his head and I let my hand that was covering his mouth drop. I examined him more carefully. He was covered in bruises and blood, I gasped again. He was covered in bruises. Probably from being whipped by his master. That’s

I sent the last slave I had kidnapped to bring the new female food and water. I told the slave to just feed and give her water. She knew better than to untie the new female. She realized I would kill her for a transgression such as to untie the bonds. The beatings I generously gave to the female made her a docile slave. She’s aware when I’m ready to slake my lust on her, I could give her pain or I could give her pleasure just as easily. I recognized the thought of pleasure overreached what sex was with me. I was aware the pain kept her a more willing slave than the pleasure ever did.…

“The overseers wore dazzling white shirts and broad shadowy hats. The oiled barrels of their shotguns flashed in the sunlight. Their faces in memory are utterly blank.” Black and White men are the symbol of ethnic abhorrence. “The prisoners wore dingy gray-and-black zebra suits, heavy as canvas, sodden with sweat. Hatless, stooped, they chopped weeds in the fierce heat, row after row, breathing the acrid dust of boll-weevil poison.” The narrator expresses the unforgiving situations the slaves worked in; they didn’t even have a choice which is the saddest part. Yet the slave masters lived a different elegant life.…

“You hear that wolf boy? You hear it?” Cassius Banner, Master John’s longest held slave, screams to his son. The dark-skin adolescent nods. The fury of his father is the product of a life lacerated not by the whip but by the whites. Cassius’s left arm was eviscerated by Master John’s ferocious pack of rottweilers, after the slave was framed for learning how to read. His back contains blotches of dark red swamps, dirty-covered areas of dried blood and open flesh.…

I panicked. Having him catch and hold me was bad enough. Now he meant to turn me I as a runaway . . . I dug my nails of my free hand into his arm and tore the flesh from elbow to wrist as the other man watched in disbelief. Surprise and pain made the man loosen his grip on me slightly, and I wrenched away.…

This turns out to be an ironic contrast to life at the Weylin plantation, where a slave who visits his wife without his master's permission is brutally whipped. Perhaps a more painful realization for Dana is how this cruel treatment oppresses the mind. "Slavery of any kind fostered strange relationships," she notes, for all the slaves feel the same strange combination of fear, contempt, and affection toward Rufus that she does.…

What is heritage? This is a question that begins to wander through one’s mind in Alice Walker’s Everyday Use. Although, it seems like a pretty generic answer, one sees that through this story that there are different meanings to people. Everyday Use is a story that follows a mom and her two daughters Maggie and Dee otherwise known as “Wangero.” It goes through these lives to share with the reader how people can completely abandon their past or ways of living as a child and then after growing up decide to completely praise those ways. Although, one thing still remains which is what does heritage mean to certain people and how does one preserve it.…

The children unable to work in the field had neither shoes, stockings, jackets, nor trousers, given to them; their clothing consisted of two coarse linen shirts per year. When these failed them, they went naked until the next allowance-day. (Source: Narrative of The Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave.) Slaveowners frequently discussed the care and feeding of slaves among themselves and within southern agricultural journals. It is clear that deliberations…

My name is Guy Johanson, and I am a sophomore Music Education major at the Setnor School of Music. I am originally from Liverpool, NY, just outside of Syracuse. I have been involved with Syracuse University since the time I was in middle school participating in youth ensembles playing the French Horn and the Oboe. Currently I am a member of the Syracuse University Marching Band, Tau Beta Sigma (the national band sorority), and am usually playing with many ensembles around campus. I work at Old Navy in Destiny USA during school breaks, while during the school year I work at the Cathedral Academy at Pompey as an after school music program teacher. My strongest skill that I possess, I believe, is my ability to time manage. Throughout the past year and a half, I have learned to balance 19+ credits, sorority involvement, and working two jobs during the year.…

The essay on His Race for Race was a very descriptive essay. The essay spoke on the color of Barack Obama which showed the racial barriers he went through today as our president. Obama is very good with speeches and debates he mastered that from his days on the Harvard Debate Team. One point in the 2008 presidential campaign a white lady showed a racial stereotype due to ignorance by saying “she isn’t voting for Obama because he was Arabian.” Obama comes from a very large diverse family and culture.…

There are four incidents from, In The Life Of A Slave Girl that have enhanced, challenged, reinforced and enlightened me. The first quote deepened my understanding, the second enhanced and deepened my thoughts, the third reinforced previous notions and the fourth enhanced my understanding of slaves ways of coping. This book in general has made me second-guess my previous thinking, solidified other ideas and challenge new ideas. One of the first quotes that stood out to me in Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl, was “As a child, I loved my mistress; and, looking back on the happy days i spent with her, i try to think with less bitterness of this act of injustice” (Jacobs, Pg. 9).…

I will start writing the journal entries and completing the assignments that are due for the week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
