My life has changed because I have found out about my true friends and my “fake” friends. The ones that I know more outside of school are my true friends but the ones that I don’t talk to at all is different. This helped me change the way I look at people and kinda prejudge. The event that most interested me was the slave trader video. How they took a prince and broke him. He still was able to survive and still run a plantation just like the tribe he was from. It must take a lot of self will to survive in the conditions they were put in on the boat, then to get off and still be no better than cattle. Though slavery was equally as tragic and traumatic for black men and women, the experience of slavery affected them in different ways. "Depending upon their age and gender, slaves were assigned a particular task, or tasks, that had to be completed during the course of the day." In certain settings, men would participate in the hard labor, such as working on the farm, while women would generally work in the household. They would "be sent out on errands, but in most cases their jobs required that they spend much of their time within their owner's household." These gender distinctions were mainly applied in the Northern colonies and on larger plantations. In Southern colonies and smaller farms, however, women and men typically engaged in the same roles, both working in the tobacco crop fields.…

An event I've experienced that was life changing was when I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. It was an affirmation of years of disciplined work and study to have such a prestigious honor bestowed upon me. In scouting, I developed various moral and ethical tenants that have shaped my foundation in life. Tenants like integrity, honor, reverence, faith in God, a man's role and his responsibility to his family, and a nearly innumerable quantity of experiences growing under the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America have molded me into who I am today in my very core of being. The realization of my dream to become an Eagle Scout took 11 years to obtain, so I'm no stranger to adversity or perseverance. To my memory,…

The beginning of my freshman year in high school changed my life. I had set many types of goals for myself this year including making friends, helping others and being a part of the most incredible organization, Blue Guards. Blue Guards is apart of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Oxon Hill High School. Blue Guards was not only a drill team, it was a family, a family of girls and boys working together, leading others, having discipline, and respecting each other as a team. Walking into the first day of school knowing I was going to be part of this team made me light up like a light bulb.…

I soon realized that obtaining a college degree needed to become part of my personal goals and this achievement was necessary in reaching other goals, specifically career goals. Although my intentions seemed to motivate me to the return to the classroom, I did not have an end in mind. At that point, I was taking classes just to keep adding credits to my transcripts in hopes that one day I would have an associate's degree. This plan was, to say the least, not effective. I had some sort of an end in mind, but not an effective way to get there. This plan was no only unsuccessful; it seemed like a never-ending cycle with no degree in sight. In the words of Covey, I was "caught up in an activity trap, in the busy-ness of like, to work harder and harder at climbing the ladder of success only to discover it's leaning against the wrong wall." (Covey…

As we grow up we all go through some kind of adversity that can lead to something good or even something worse in the end.
