In order to live deliberately, we must be able to enlighten our minds and open our hearts to ideas that are different from our own. In Thoreau’s journal entries, he says, “cultivate the tree which you have found to bear fruit in your soil.” To me, the soil symbolizes the human essence, the tree symbolizes the opportunities we receive, and the fruit symbolizes the great actions that a person has done with the opportunities brought to them. When it comes to personal successes, we must be able to move forward at a constant rate. When we look back at all of our past failures or triumphs, we inhibit our ability to live in the now. I have only been a part of the human experience for 17 years, but in those years I have learned the importance of leading a deliberate lifestyle in all branches of my life. We can build off our success to enhance not only for our own lives, but the lives of those who surround us. We can grow and learn from those who came before us. Their mistakes and triumphs can serve as lessons for all, especially future generations. We must be able to look to others for guidance, which in turn, amplifies our own lives. They are the “trees” that we branch off and grow from. By grasping every lesson and opportunity, we live deliberately and the fruits we bear become abundant. For many, living deliberately can mean doing well in school to shape a future of prosperity and having a well educated background. It can also mean taking risks and fulfilling your life to reach its greatest potential in a creative manner. No matter the goal the person creates for themselves, it all has the same basic beginning. Living deliberately is based on fluidity, not the act of being concrete. Life changes at a constant rate, and we must be willing to alter our views and goals to fit what life provides
