When the guests came to our class it opened to my eyes to see how many people identify with different genders and identities. Prior to this class and the guest speakers, it is easy to think that gender is only spilt into two genders or identity. It is also frightening to see how these people are treated because they do not fit into the cookie cutter shapes of gender and identity. Gender is more complex than I thought it to be.
It is never ending and evolving subject and it affect more people than I thought. In the society we live in it sometimes difficult to see the things that are not the norm. Usually it is what society dictates to us.

3.
Kayia Hinton – Real Estate Agent

Are you in a male dominated career?
Yes. Real estate is usually a male centered career.
How does that make you feel?
It encourages me to work harder to prove that I am just as efficient if not more.
What are the differences between you and your male counterparts? The difference are many. Some subtle, some very obtuse. For example my dress code or what I wear is scrutinized more than male contemporaries so I have to take careful care when I get dressed for work in the morning.
Is there a wage gap in your career?
Luckily in real estate, it is really about how much money you make on a sale and how much the property you are selling is going for. But as I said before this is a male dominated career.
Do you see your career having more females break in over the years to come?
I do see it in the coming years. There are more females now in real estate than when I first started in this career.

Part 2
From taking this class, I have learnt so much about women and namely oppression. Oppression sometimes can be around us and we do not know we are oppressed. It is an all-encompassing faucet that has many heads. Women are such an undermined gender, yet it is proclaimed that they have equal rights and privileges as men do. This is how oppression is apparent but it hidden under a cloak of false equality.

My name is Guy Johanson, and I am a sophomore Music Education major at the Setnor School of Music. I am originally from Liverpool, NY, just outside of Syracuse. I have been involved with Syracuse University since the time I was in middle school participating in youth ensembles playing the French Horn and the Oboe. Currently I am a member of the Syracuse University Marching Band, Tau Beta Sigma (the national band sorority), and am usually playing with many ensembles around campus. I work at Old Navy in Destiny USA during school breaks, while during the school year I work at the Cathedral Academy at Pompey as an after school music program teacher. My strongest skill that I possess, I believe, is my ability to time manage. Throughout the past year and a half, I have learned to balance 19+ credits, sorority involvement, and working two jobs during the year.…

The essay on His Race for Race was a very descriptive essay. The essay spoke on the color of Barack Obama which showed the racial barriers he went through today as our president. Obama is very good with speeches and debates he mastered that from his days on the Harvard Debate Team. One point in the 2008 presidential campaign a white lady showed a racial stereotype due to ignorance by saying “she isn’t voting for Obama because he was Arabian.” Obama comes from a very large diverse family and culture.…

The word oppression still exists in the everyday lives of women but has changed its tyrannical implications, meaning there is no dictator to influence or force negative actions toward women gender. According to Iris Young, the author of the chapter Five Faces of Oppression, the word oppression has come to represent communities and individuals that are being discriminated by the way society is structured, rather than a single leader oppression. Most people do not think women are subjected to discrimination but it still exists, yet women individually have proven that they are able to overcome it.…

And they also think women in the workplace are not seriously enough, because the employer think they are more concerned about the economic security of their husbands rather than their own works.(Donahue,1989)For example,Employees in the construction industry are more than a million people, but only ten percent of women. Therefore, this makes the male occupy the dominant position in the industrial sector. So the image of architectural is very poor, less knowledge, as well as worse career advice. Although the insurance industry is more diverse there is still a huge gap between women and men when it comes to equal pay and promotional opportunities. As stated by Wojcik (2013), “Only 6% of top executive positions across the insurance industry are held by women, and only 12.6% of board seats belong to women” (p.0015). The percent of jobs held by women in the insurance company is extremely low, while most companies percentage of women in senior positions are well above 40%. Also women make approximately 20% less than men of any other industry based off of research mentioned by Wojcik (2013), “According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the pay disparity is greater in the finance and insurance services sectors than all other industries, with women's earnings averaging 62.2% of their male counterparts, compared with 82.2% for all other industries” (p.0015). Wojcik believes the cause of unequal promotional opportunity and pay raise within the insurance industry is a result of the insurance industry being predominantly male in which the men who run these companies believe women’s abilities to succeed are far less than that of a man, stating “Because male-dominated senior management teams set the tone for their organizations and often determine who gets promoted and who does not, they tend to select protégés resembling themselves. Such unconscious biases have a tendency to undermine…

I begin my week with reading the assignments and answering the discussion forum questions. Next, I usually reply to other peoples posts throughout the week. I will start writing the journal entries and completing the assignments that are due for the week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Finally, I read my work over before I finally submit my assignments for the week. After a hard day of work I come home and complete my assignments first, and then I complete any other chores that I have to do.…

One of the biggest problems today’s society has is change. Society fears the oncoming storm of liberal ideas as well as the ever changing mass of people who aren’t afraid to speak up about topics like “gender”, which is arguably as broad and debatable as they come. The amount of people educated in this topic, however, is not so extensive. Many people only have knowledge of what a man and woman should be based on their society’s rules. Others understand and accept that “gender only exists as a comparative quality” and choose to not divide “certain types of behaviors … as masculine or feminine” (Scantlebury). The problem of gender stereotyping and normalization has become more recognized over the…

Everybody in today’s society experiences gender throughout his or her life. However, as a female, I have personally always been affected by the social construction of gender in my day-to-day life, whether I was aware of it or not. Gender is such a prominent aspect of life for everyone that we barely recognize the effect it has on us, especially when it’s constructed within our own families.…

I'd like to say that I have always been interested in Women's and Gender studies, that since an early age that my superiors had encouraged me to explore those aspects of my personality and to be open to others variations in gender, sexuality, and so forth. The truth is that for most of my life my parents had sheltered me from those realities of the world, and it wasn't until I started high school that I discovered facets of gender, sexuality, and injustice to which I had not been previously exposed. As I increased my online presence in those years, I began to discover the reality of gender and racial inequality, the LGBTQIA+ community, and other—often controversial—social institutions.…
