Tuesday: Journal – You have a plane ticket to anywhere in the world/ Where would you go? Why?…
You are about to be taken on a journey as I tell of two short stories, “A Worn Path” and “I Used to Live Here Once”. One story will keep you in suspense wondering about this little old ladies purpose of walking a dark path, while the other story seems to be taking the character back in time to find she is only having an after death experience. As you read of the two stories, you will find they are similar in the fact that both have a symbolism of death.…
As with almost all "Christian" holidays, Easter has a secular side as well. The dichotomous nature of Easter and its symbols, however, is not necessarily a modern fabrication. Easter has always had its non-religious side. In fact, Easter was originally a pagan festival. It was co-opted by Christian missionaries starting in the second century CE. Easter must be celebrated on a Sunday between the dates of March 22 and April 25.…
The purpose of this text enable us to understand what the narrator made us think, reflect and considerate towards his painful and haunted life-journey. The narrator made us think by using many themes or key words such as satisfaction, betrayal, salvation and redemption to engage but also reflect the audience regret. A great example of this is when Amir has proved himself enough to redeem himself from his betrayal to Hassan. “…
The hero in any journey learns many lessons through the people he meets, and their response to the events. Bilbo Baggins in “The Hobbit” directed by Peter Jackson is no different. He is required to overcome many obstacles in his journey, and by doing so, he learns a valuable lesson. Bravery, thinking creatively, courage and the sense of belonging, these lessons is communicated to audience throughout the film by using thoughtful film techniques such as camera angles, shots, facial expressions of the actors and the music. When these techniques are used simultaneously can communicate the relative importance of the film.…
Firstly, I would treasure visiting England because I would travel to London, the capital of England and is considered to be one of the most sophisticated places in the world. Another cousin of mine got to study abroad there and has “mastered the art” of observing the whole city in two days! I would also love to tour the Beatles museums and walk down Abbey Road because their music is as beautiful as one’s childhood. Secondly, I would want to journey England on my European adventure is because I would travel to the primary beach town in England, Brighton. Brighton would be an incredible place to go because not only do they have a beach, but they have charming shops and restaurants that are widely known all throughout England. The final place I would visit in England while on my Europe trip is the city of Oxford. This city would be so pleasant to go to because of their college, Oxford University, which is one of my dream colleges. C.S. Lewis’ house is also present where you can explore the house and examine where he wrote his most widespread series, Narnia. As a result, my respect for England and my yearning to go there brings me back to my desire to travel through…
How do the texts that you have studied explore the assumptions underlying the concept of the physical journey?…
Travelling has always been a passion of mine. Being an army brat, I find seeing new places, meeting new people and getting to know their different “traditions”, exceptionally inspiring. But having to stay and live at the places I thought I was visiting was a difficult task for me.…
The word journey means to travel and go to adventurous places. A hero is a person who saves people or saves something. The characteristics that a hero should have is to be courageous, brave, fearful, and strong. A hero must make many actions. A hero has to be quick with their decisions and thoughts. They need to know when to do something or when not to do something. They do need really fast reaction times in order to save someone. A hero can not be afraid of doing something.…
“The Journey of Man” is a movie that embodies the past of humankind based on DNA. Spencer Wells, a geneticist and anthropologist, embarks on a journey to trace the spreading of human migrations out of Africa. This movie implies that a further study of human beings will not be focused on finding fossil remains but instead focused on obtaining blood samples from significant tribes around the world.…
“To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive.” In other words a journey and the experiences you have are better than the actual destination. The novel “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain and the poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost have taught me that journeys may involves barriers and hardships, they can lead to significant personal change and more importantly journeys facilitate reflection about how you see yourself, others and the world. Journeys are very important in personal change and growth. They can also help us in comparing and contrasting new and old experiences.…
What is the real purpose of living, if you are unwilling to take any uncalculated risks? These “risks” can range from something as simple as sampling a new food, or something as bold as skydiving. Some people are natural risk takers; they live without fear and have no reservations when it comes to failure. Personally, I have never been much of risk-taker. In fact, I have lived a majority of my life in a very planned, deliberate and some may even say a very boring manner. Now that I am bit older I find myself at one of life’s critical crossing points. The question now is if I am going to stay firmly planted in my seat or use my parachute.…
Journeys are defined as the act of travelling from one place or state to another, they can either be physical, imaginative or inner. Through the study of various texts, audiences are exposed to a number of journeys. They teach us that there is always knowledge to gain from a journey. The individual embarking on the journey encounters many challenges and is open to new experiences, which allow them to learn and achieve a better sense of self. Ursula Le Guin’s novel, A Wizard of Earthsea (Earthsea), as well as Rain Man, a 1988 film directed by Barry Levinson, explores this idea about journeys being educating experiences. They both include protagonists who undertake a journey and along the way gather a greater knowledge of themselves and the world.…
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, Magis, and Persons for Others - these are the common phrases expressed and uttered along the halls of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan. I am touched by the meaning of these values and practices since I am sort of new to this kind of environment. Now I know why this institution is prestigious and is being looked up by other people – it’s because of the values they teach coupled with the quality education they offer. Going to Xavier University is an experience I will never ever forget; it’s not about the name that the school carries; it’s not about how seemingly glamorous you are when you walk down the streets wearing the school uniform; it’s not about being classy and smart all at the same time, it’s because here, they focus more on shaping you on to becoming the best of you, in service for others, the country and for God. In this school, I became a person for others.…
Finally, I would fly to Kenya where I would stay for about a week. There are three things I would like to do in Kenya. First, I hope I could visit the coast. I would go the great and old Arab cities that have risen from the…
