Journey to the Center of the Earth
Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne is about Axel, his uncle, Professor Lidenbrock, and their guide, Hans, traveling to the center of the earth through a volcano. Even though they never reached the center, they did discover several things.
The story began when Professor Lidenbrock brought home an old manuscript. He and his nephew Axel discovered that the manuscript was written by a famous Icelandic alchemist during the 16th century. They find it says that if they enter a certain volcano near the end of June, they would be able to reach the center of the Earth.
Axel and his uncle went to Iceland. Where they met up with their guide Hans, and started to travel up the volcano. After climbing up the volcano, they went inside to the lowest part where they entered a dark tunnel. They came out of the tunnel into what seemed like the surface of the earth, even though it was under the earth’s crust. Then they built a raft to travel across a sea. It took them a long time to get to the other side of the sea because of a terrible storm. They found another tunnel, but it had rocks in front of it so they blew it up. The rocks fell in the sea and it caused the sea to make a wave which pushed them in the tunnel. Suddenly, they were falling down until water shot up and caused the raft to head into a different passage. The passage ended up being a volcano and they were then shot out of it. They found out that they were back at the surface of the earth.
The book, Journey to the Center of the Earth, was full of discoveries. Overall, the story was interesting. At times, it seemed to jump from one scene to another, which was confusing. In conclusion, it was an enjoyable and entertaining book.
