I have chosen three texts that relate closely to the aspects of Journeys of Discovery. My first selected text is a poem called ‘Journey’ by Narendra Kuppan. My second chosen text is the movie, ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and my third text is the book, ‘Tomorrow When the War Began,’ by John Marsden. These three texts are all related as they are about a person or a group of people undergoing their own personal Journey of Discovery. They also enhanced and challenged my understanding of the concept in the way that each individual journey is carried out.
My first text – Journey, by Narendra Kuppan closely relates by the use of language techniques and hidden messages that are used within the poem. Narendra Kuppan writes “Life is a journey, your thoughts direct your way in the journey.” “Life is a journey, an unpredictable journey, where you cannot predict when you will start the journey and when end the journey.” These quotes from Stanza 1 and Stanza 2 of the poem suggest that a journey is our own. We all undergo our on life journeys in which we make many discoveries about ourselves. “Life is a journey and the time taken in the journey, is the only time for you to reach your destiny,” this quote in the 4th Stanza of the poem enhances our understanding of journeys and that while we are on our own journey, it is us that determines our destiny. In the 5th and final Stanza, Narendra Kuppan writes “Life is a journey, unavoidable journey. The way, in which you want, you may travel. And the way in which you will travel will show your destiny. And so, try to travel in the way by which you can reach your destiny.” This entire Stanza tells us that there is no avoiding your journey but you are able to choose the way in which you take it on and where it will take
