Joy in the Midst of my Pain
By: Lakella L. Taylor
God give me the strength I need to go on
My heart is wailing, sorrowful
My soul lies driven in by the tide of despair.
Lord lift up my heart; lift up my soul, save me
From my affliction and pain.
For great is my love for thee.
For thy art my joy in the midst of my pain.

A Piece of Art
By: Lakella L. Taylor
A piece of art
Vague and shallow, all dark and gloomy
Misunderstood and mistaken
A piece of art
Beautiful in all simplicity
Light and airy
Different yet familiar
Flawed yet flawless
Right yet wrong
Colorful and shiny

Yes, yes I have heard it all before.
Those three words open the door
The door to a chamber of lies and heart break.
Heart break that I’ve known
I’ve felt.
I’ve witnessed.
I love you.
What do you me?
What do you love to love about me?
Is it my skin which glows like brown sugar cane?
Is it my body, all curved and petite?
Is it my lips, thick and full?
Is it my eyes that sparkle like cider in the radiant sunshine?
What do you love to love about me?
Can’t imagine?
Dare to imagine?
Can’t fathom the uniqueness
That supposedly sets me apart from all the rest.
Just a matter of regret
Regret that I’ve fallen so many times
For an empty three word line
I love you.
Then what do you love to love about me.

Peering Well
By: Lakella L. Taylor

Go down to the well and I draw water.
Night is approaching as I draw.
The stars are glistening from afar.
Headed back home pail in hand,
Looking forward to tomorrow,
So I may do it again.
Peering Well
Like a dark night
The well provides for my life.
It’s a place where I can confide
All my troubles and fears aside.
Like an exotic paradise
My soul it enlightens.
It’s a source of vitality.
Peering well
Lets me see what’s

It’s the Gift
By: Lakella L. Taylor (Davenport)

It’s the gift of peace
That makes our lives bearable
It’s the gift of friendship
That makes you feel accepted.
It’s the gift of touch
That enables you to reach out to others.
It’s the gift of giving
That allows us to make someone’s day a little brighter.
It’s the gift of joy
That allows us to enjoy life.
It’s the gift of sound
That enables us to hear.
It’s the gift of unity
That allows us to come together as one.
It’s the gift of love that makes the world go round.

The Simple Gift, a novel by Steven Herrick, is based on the journey of a teenage boy named Billy. The book highlights that material possessions are not all that matters, and that often it is a sense of belonging that really shines through during desperate times. Sometimes money even if earnt can be valueless, freedom can be found easier if you lack physical possessions, and simply letting go of the past and leaving it behind can lead to you finding happiness through better, stronger relationships.…

    Self Pity Poem Analysis

    • 312 Words
    • 1 Page

D.H. Lawrence’s Poem Self Pity is a short and powerful poem about the self pity in humans. Lawrence starts the poem out stating “I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself” often humans will dwell on things that have went wrong in the past, whereas an animal will take life’s imperfections and keep living without thinking twice. (1, 2). Lawrence wants the reader to understand the insignificance of self pity when he says “A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough”, a bird being ever so small compared to a human; will simply accept death as it comes without feeling sorry about the outcome of life (3). Humans, on the other hand, will be on their death bed contemplating their past, wondering if they will be missed, or what others will think of them when they’re gone. The last sentence in the poem is the most influential of the entire piece, Lawrence states the bird died “without ever having felt sorry for itself”, the bird knows no sorrow for its self, and the bird has accepted life and death as so (4). When it comes to people sometimes they have so much self pity they can’t accept the darts life throws, to the point they cannot emotionally recover. Animals in the wild live every day of life to the fullest; they don’t think about what they don’t have or what others think of them unlike people. Humans have the tendency to hold back in life due to the fear of what others will think, which is a form of self pity. Lawrence wants the reader to not show characteristics of self pity, but to simply live life as it is and die in peace, not worrying if you lived up to another person’s expectations.…

In the poem The Laboratory, written in 17th century by Robert Browning, there are many references to strong emotions that are felt. Robert Browning wrote this poem as a dramatic monologue. The main feelings throughout the poem are pain, jealousy, anger, hatred and loneliness. These themes are in each of the text, the Laboratory and Macbeth. Although both texts are written in different forms of literature - Shakespeare's "Macbeth” is in the form of a play and "The Laboratory" being in the form of a poem both texts create powerful imagery and through use of language evokes strong emotions from the audience.…

    Pain Poem

Pain, right at this moment honestly I can’t think of anything that makes me feel pain. I don’t think I have been through the deep pain that people can’t get rid of, but there is one thing that makes me feel pain and that is when see others in pain and to see this beautiful world suffering with so many kinds of things. So basically based on this poem I wrote about what pain I faced and what I think I can do and what others can do to give solutions for this pain. This is a very short summary of the poem I wrote……In today’s world, It has changed so badly and it’s obvious. An innocent child will receive things that the world is doing and it will ruin their innocent mind. Life will get harder and harder and it is so dark and tough to achieve what you want to achieve, you fail so many times and it will just make you give up easily. If your life is so dark by doing so many bad things, do more good things and it definitely will cover up all the bad things and it will also cover up all the bad memories that you had. And so now, you will definitely find your life different and continue moving forward in your life. One person definitely can’t light up the whole world; we can’t be so selfish and wait for others to be the light of the world and of other…
