PROCEDURE
For my experiment, I put a grape juice stain on six cotton tee shirt cut outs. I used scissors to cut small pieces of fabric in to square shapes. I researched and found that cotton holds stains very well. To remove each stains from the fabric I used baking soda, ketchup, Gatorade, lemon juice, detergent, and just water.
The investigation I conducted was, “What household items can you use to remove a stain the best.” For my procedure, I cut out six pieces of a cotton tee-shirt and applied one tablespoon of a grape juice stain. One tablespoon of the grape juice stain was added to each piece of fabric.
Next, I added one tablespoon of baking soda, ketchup, Gatorade, lemon juice, detergent, and just water on the top of the grape juice stain. In each bowl I also added ¼ a cup of water so each fabric piece could soak in a liquid. My control fabric swatch had no household item on it, only the water it was soaking in. Next, I let each of the ingredients soak in water for thirty minutes. Another group of the same ingredients I let soak for one hour. I conducted a total of three experiments. All of which had the thirty minute and one hour groups tested. In the first experiment, the pieces of cloth were in an aluminum bowl. I made little bowls out of cut squares of tin …show more content…
The cotton tee-shirt with the detergent was almost completely white when I rinsed it off for ten seconds. The next best stain remover was actually ketchup with a score of 11 on the scale. The third best, from my view, was Gatorade. It had the next best score of 10 on the color scale. The fourth best was the lemon juice group. The fifth best was the control group. The last best was actually baking soda. I thought it would do very well, but when the pieces of fabric dried, the cloth turned brown. This was a very odd
