However today's fight left proud Tybalt Capulet and boisterous Mercutio Escalus dead with Romeo Montague banished. Many residents are shocked by such a horrific outcome and are currently grieving their deaths along with Romeo’s banishment.
In an interview with a rather distraught Benvolio Montague, who happens to be an eyewitness at the scene (who's also a relative of Romeo Montague and close friend of Mercutio Escalus) retold the event.
The fight included Romeo, Mercutio, Benvolio, Tybalt, and his men. It started out as Tybalt who seemed to be looking for Romeo and asked Mercutio and Benvolio if he knew where he was. It then escalated to rather heated insults and threats until Romeo …show more content…
happened to arrive at the scene. Tybalt asked for a fight, however Romeo declined and instead offered peace, saying “Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee doth much excuse the appertaining rage to such a greeting. Villain am I none. Therefore, farewell. I see thou know’st me not.”
Nonetheless Tybalt did not heed and Mercutio being a close friend of Romeo felt honour bound to take his place.Tybalt and Mercutio proceeded to fight until Romeo drew out his sword in between them in an effort to stop the fight. This, however gave Tybalt an opening and stabbed Mercutio, with him running away from the crime he had committed. Mercutio soon died from the wound, leaving Romeo with a rage and a taste for vengeance. Shortly afterwards Tybalt returned to fight Romeo. The aftermath of this battle left Tybalt dead and Romeo being the victor.
The prince furious of his relative Mercutio’s death and the disregard of his law banished Romeo from Verona.
If he happens to return to the city he will be put to death.
The citizens living in Verona are expressing concern and fear that Montague’s and the Capulet’s strife will never end. An elderly resident commented “Their feud has been long-standing, why I remember them quarreling back when I was a child! You’d think that they would have stopped by now, but it seems it won't be ending any time soon. Do they even remember what they were fighting about?” Even poor Mercutio’s last words were, “A plague o' both your houses! They have made worms' meat of me. I have it, and soundly too. Your houses!”
Now the question is will the Montague’s and Capulet’s feud bring more bloodshed? Both are currently mourning their losses, but have an aura of malice surrounding them making Verona suspended with tension. But one thing is certain, that only a miracle could stop this never ending conflict….or a
tragedy.
