Julius Caesar Essay Throughout the play “Julius Caesar” by William Shakespeare, there is a very evident case of a tragic hero. A tragic hero is “a man of noble stature who is not an ordinary man, but a man with outstanding quality and greatness about him. His own destruction is for a greater cause or principle.” “Julius Caesar” is about a group of Romans who conspire together to kill the very powerful Julius Caesar. After they kill him, Rome is turned against them and they have to fight for their cause. Brutus, a main character, is part of the conspiracy and joins the conspiracy to protect Rome, but then ends up dying to support his cause. Brutus is the tragic hero of “Julius Caesar” because he never has a back-up plan for his actions, he is a loyal Roman citizen, and he has a bad sense of character. In the play "Julius Caesar", Brutus has a pattern of never having a secondary plan for his actions. Brutus does this because he wants to believe everything will work out as planned, but it does not. One example of Brutus expecting things will go his way but don’t, is when he lets Marc Antony speak after Brutus. Brutus says " I will myself into the pulpit first/ And show the reason of our Caesar's death" (3,1. 261-262). Brutus is saying that he will speak first so he can explain why they kill Caesar. Cassius warned Brutus that Antony may contradict them, but Brutus is sure his plan will work. Antony then turns the crowd against Brutus and the conspirators, which causes his eventual downfall. Brutus is the tragic hero of the play "Julius Caesar" because of his flaw of always expecting things to go as planned. Brutus is the tragic hero of "Julius Caesar" because he kills Caesar for the best of Rome and dies for his cause. Brutus truly believes Caesar will have a negative impact on Rome. Brutus puts his country before his friends and even his family so he joins the conspiracy to assassinate Caesar, even though Caesar was his friend, Brutus' loyalty as a Roman
