Junior High Narrative
Junior High
My Junior High years were filled with ups and downs. Now I don’t remember much from my junior high years, but I do remember my first homecoming dance in my seventh grade. I also remember when I first joined band in sixth grade. Ever since sixth grade I could not separate myself from band. Band is my home away from home and I hold it fondly in my heart. Another memory from band is my first parade. Through my junior high life, I slowly gained confidence especially after I picked up a trumpet.
My first story is my first homecoming dance, which was fun. I did not know how to dress for that kind of dance, and I decided that I would try to look nice and put on some heeled sandals a red skirt and a tank top. At that point, I did not know that I liked to dance, and I just stayed in the corner, too shy to come out of it. I danced terribly that night,

Brown, we didn’t march we rode on the float and on my first year I was on the edge of the float. But, even though I was nervous, I just went with the flow. At first, when we started loading up I was just staring down at the edge and thinking about all the ways I could fall off. But when we started playing, I didn’t worry anymore and I just played my little heart out and enjoyed the float. After that performance, I had an immense amount of confidence in myself, and had decided that I was going to try to be the best trumpet in my section. Within three years of playing trumpet I could reach a High A. All of these stories have a common theme of me gaining confidence; in all my years of junior high and high school self-confidence got me through them.. I always want to reach higher and higher especially in band. Band is my life. and I don’t think I would be able to handle high school without it. Junior high was filled with lots of ups and downs but I got through it. Junior high and high school are the times of your life when you find yourself and your style enjoy them and do your best.

Yough Intermediate Middle School, a comical and controlled environment. Waking up everyday to come to school is a nuisance. It worth every second of the day because of the amazing teachers, students, and staff. The curricular activities are as creative as a Picasso painting. The adventures I have gone on in Yough has taken me through life even more. The adventures have been vigorous, inferior, and patchy.…

I went from the girl who was terrified of speaking her mind to someone who can easily give speeches in front of people and can lead a clarinet section of 20 people. Being responsible for 19 other people is a challenge that freshman me would never have been able to do, and in this way, band has helped me grow into both the leader and the person that I am today. However, band didn’t just help me grow, it made me happy. My memories of band are some of the happiest memories of my life. Memories ranging from praying to all the band gods above for a water break or possibly a nice cloud to shade us from the evil sun to marching and winning sweepstakes at our very first competition and crying our tears of happiness together. I will always cherish these memories.Band acted as my salvation in how it forced me to grow into the leader I am today and how it made me happy. I want college to act as my second salvation. When I first found Arcadia, I wanted to go there simply for the accelerated forensic science program it provided. Then, I visited the campus and realized that I adore it and would love living…

Growing up we all looked forward to starting high school, but how many of us enjoyed every bit of it? High school was a moment that I looked forward to; thoughts of doing what I finally wanted to flood my mind. In June 2008, I received my GSAT result and was delighted when I saw that I passed for the William Knibb Memorial High School; although a bit disappointed because it wasn’t on my top five list. High school was not everything that I expected. In a few days, I met a few nice people. The first week of school was amazing, but after a few weeks things started getting intense. High school; however, was no bed of roses, especially when it came onto the subjects, reports, and school rules.…

Over that time, I dealt with an anxiety disorder and depression. Both kept getting in the way of my day-today life and things got really hard, but band helped me learn to cope. By the end of the season, I had gone from not being able to control attacks to preventing them all together. I learned that even though things get hard, you can push through it and get to the other side. Along with that, I learned how to deal with problems in an efficient way, and to be more confident in myself not just as a musician, but in who I am, and that being ambitious isn’t a bad thing. Going into band, I wasn’t confident; I was afraid to talk to others and didn’t put myself out there. I would have never wanted to be a drum major or anything like it. Now I’ll try to get to know others, I’ll go out of my way. It has given me goals I never would’ve dreamed I could have, like auditioning for a world class band. Marching band has made me confident in myself and musicianship, become more efficient, ambitious in my goals, more responsible, and built my…

For seven years I have been part of some sort of musical group. My junior year in high school I took two classes from teachers who gave immense amounts of work on difficult material. The classes were Honors Pre-Calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II. After a day at school and a demanding golf practice until dark, it was time to start my homework. By then I was already exhausted, but I still had hours of homework ahead of me. Most schools nights I would not be able to start my hefty pile of homework until 8 o'clock. Many nights the strenuous assignments given in Honors Pre-calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II kept me awake late into the night, even as late as 4 am. It was difficult struggling to stay awake and complete my strenuous workload after an entire day of activity. A full night of sleep…

In seventh grade, my brother joined the middle school band. This was the start of a new beginning for me. My perspective of others started to broaden slightly by being exposed to some band members who were my brother’s friends. Three years later, when I entered seventh grade, I decided to join the middle school band and play the trumpet. I finally was a part of the group that I had been mocking for years. This was a large step for me. I was about to embark on a tremendous journey that would completely change my perspective on life. I would start to realize, as I became closer to the other members, that band students are not all the geeks that they are made out to be. While some members are a little quirky and some of the things that I did in band were a little weird, I truly discovered all of the great things that band has to offer. As I soon came to realize, members of marching bands gain valuable character traits, leadership skills, and academic benefits that help them excel in…

I was the kind of guy who always strove in order to get the highest grades but yet hadn’t decided what to do in the future. I wasn’t worried, I knew someday I would find something in what I was good at. I got to live with that thought for some time until I got to attend middle school, where I stopped worrying about my grades and managed only to pass the subjects. I spent most of my time sleeping due to the frustration of not knowing what to do in the future. Most of my middle school experience was tasteless. I hadn’t friends at all, and teachers used to discourage their students about their future. “You're not going to college, you’ll not be able to do it because you’re poor” used to say, Mrs. Vazquez, the math teacher who instead of giving her class, talked on how much his son had accomplished in college and how we would not be able to attend. That was about to change.…

The last time I remember something as huge as starting in high school was having to move to Oregon from Alaska, but for better or for worse, here I am, attempting to make my mark on this big blue Earth. However, Highschool was never always just peaches, cream, rainbows and unicorns. If I’m to be one hundred percent honest here, I was legitimately terrified of it, whether it be the totally reasonable fear of being stuffed into a locker by a bully or getting lost in a labyrinth of corridors and passages of infinite classes and broom closets. But those fears never truly emerged up until the final days of freedom that remained from my graduation of 8th grade. As the days drew nearer, so did my fear reaching the brim of a breakdown. I was scared,…

While most teens transitioning to high school focused their mental energy towards worrying about their next exam and trying to fit in somewhere, mine included more hardships. I was more focused on trying to live comfortably with strangers, and not feeling like a burden to them. A lot of my energy went towards trying to be there for my little sister, someone I’ve never had a chance to build a good relationship with in the first place, in a time where I didn’t want anything to do with relationships. I was focused on things like learning to trust again, accepting the things that have happened in my life, and not shutting everyone out of my life. It was in this time frame that I turned to music for comfort.…

Junior year was a year to remember, I learned many valuable lessons that I could apply to my senior year. Mrs.Wright was my english teacher and was one of my hardest classes that year. I appreciate her for making her class a challenge from essays to research papers, I learned from them and became a better writer because of her. My life during the time was overwhelming due to family problems, many of my other teachers and peers supported me and I highly thank them. One of my favorite activities was the pep rallys, Mrs.Wright told us “If you win, I will give you five points on your test,” This made our junior class pumped and ready to take the spirit stick! I loved the feeling of having pride in my school and also the ideal of winning just to…
