change” which means that people all the way up to their twenties still have brains that are still growing and changing. This means that Juveniles still can learn and rehabilitate from what they have done. Once someone's brain is fully grown, it is hard for them to learn how to change their ways, because that is what their mind is set to know. That is why about 68 percent of criminals go back to prison after they have been released, because they more than likely didn’t learn and committed the same crime. Juveniles however, can still learn and once they are released, they know what they had done is wrong and will not commit that crime again. Because of the developing of the brain in juveniles still occurring, it means that juveniles will act and respond differently in difficult situations.
Juveniles do not think things through as long as adults do. They will also not think of the outcome of what they are about to do, which causes them to make bad decisions. These decisions is what puts these juveniles in the adult court system and sentenced to life in prison. The people that were put in prison since they were juveniles have learned that what they did was wrong. They were still able to learn and rehabilitate because of their developing brains. A child named Greg Ousley was put in prison for killing his parents. In the article “Greg Ousley Is Sorry for Killing His Parents. Is That Enough?” by Scott Anderson, it talks about how Greg is sorry for what he has done and wants to show his family that he has changed. The fact that he was a juvenile when he was put in prison allowed him to learn faster from what he has done. America is the only place where children are sentenced to die in prison. In the article “Juveniles don’t deserve life sentences” by Gail Garinger, she quotes “ Nationwide, 79 young adolescents have been sentenced to die in prison — a sentence not imposed on children anywhere else in the world.” Why are these children here in America being sentenced to die in prison when other country's children around the world do not. It makes our nation look bad. It makes it seem like we do not treat these children
right. These kids deserve better, they deserve a chance to prove themselves and show that they can change.
I believe that juveniles should not be in the adult court system and should not be serving life sentences in prison. These children are being tried as an adult for committing heinous crimes. These children are serving life sentences in prison that they do not deserve. They should al have the chance of rehabilitation no matter what crime they committed At that age they are still able to learn that what they did was wrong and change their ways. These Juveniles as young as 14 should not be tried as adults in the adult court system and not sentenced to life in prison.
