Juxtaposition In The Kite Runner

Wow, what a story so far. I would not be surprised if this story is partly based off of actual events with the level of detail and emotional depth. I like the simple writing style as it doesn’t take away from the plot. Amir narrates it told through personal narration. There are a couple of scenes that seem to mimic a movie, which is not surprising as Amir the main character is a big fan of films mainly action films. Juxtaposition is seen when Hassan is fulfilling the many chores, and Amir is eating his breakfast made for him and complaining about homework. Symbolism is seen when Hassan is raped; Amir referred to him as the sacrificial lamb. I wonder if the rape of Hassan represented Russia and the invasion of Afghanistan. Winter was once Amirs
favourite season now it represents his guilt, and as a result, Amir cannot wait until spring arrives.
Amir was a huge disappointment, he had such potential for the future, but seems to lack integrity and courage.
I understand why he behaved the way he did because his father did not love him the way he needed to be loved. Hassan had a father who gave him love, so Amir was jealous. In Amir’s eyes, it was only fair that he have everything else if he could not have his father’s love. Amir became envious of anything that Hassan could do better such as understanding riddles faster or skipping stones further. Baba is someone with perseverance that drives him whenever anyone says he can’t do something. Baba wants to encourage a drive for success and accomplishment in his son. He does this by setting an example for Amir in throwing lavish parties for everyone and helps those less fortunate. Baba wants to see Amir stand up for something. Baba keeps a distance between himself and Amir because he is angry at Amir for his wife dying and sees Amir as a timid pathetic replacement. Hassan is extremely devoted to Amir and protects him whenever it's needed. Amir treats Hassan like a punching bag. Ali is a gentle, patient, and loving father. He’s never harsh and is a man with a happy disposition even in the cruelest of times. Ali is grateful for everything he has and teaches Hassan to be the
same.
Of course, there are still many questions left unanswered. One of the biggest being why was Hassan so loyal to Amir? Hassan never outed Amir whenever Baba asked what happened whenever Amir and Hassan got into a fight with other kids. Why can't Baba accept his son for who he is? It’s like what Rahim said, “Children are not colouring books you don’t get to colour your child in the colours you choose.” Why does Baba never have time for Amir? Doesn’t Baba see that this is what Amir needs to grow into a strong character? Why is Hassan so like Baba in nature? And why does Baba treat him so well on Hassan’s birthday? Is he secretly Baba’s son? The way he wept when Hassan and Ali left makes it seem so, as well as Baba's insistence that Hassan was family.
