K-12 Reaction Paper
Education is the government’s central strategy for achieving inclusive economic growth by investing in human capital development to reduce poverty and build national competitiveness. The government’s Philippine Development Plan, 2011–2016 sets out broad strategies to achieve inclusive growth this includes providing quality basic education (2016 ADB). In achieving this goal, the Philippine government realigns its basic Education to the rest of the world by adding two more years in the basic education.
Adding two more years in the basic education curriculum is one of the major changes in the education history of the Philippines as part of the implementation of the K to 12 Program which aims to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts

Critics of the said program cited different disadvantages that they deemed as the downfall of the said program. Many education advocates and groups said that the curriculum is half baked and that the government should focused first on the present problems that we are experiencing now, teachers in the basic education curriculum are not yet ready because of the subjects being taught in the College level are transferred in the basic education (Alliance of Concern Teachers and Teachers Dignity Coalition). In line with this, the notion of an additional two years of schooling does not seem to be appealing to parents who literally struggle to send their children to school. Being one of the pioneer teachers of the k-12 curriculum, particularly in the Senior High School, the researcher was puzzled because of the predictions that this implementation will add into the number of dropout students and will lead to being out of school, it seems that many of the students who are graduate of the old curriculum before the k-12 are being captivated in the senior high school and opted to enroll in the said program and not in the collegiate level.     There are ample reasons behind the emergence of K+12 Basic Education Program. With our country’s current situation, consequently it became an issue. Similar to coin tossing, this argument has its heads and tails thus it earned different public reactions; an approval from those who viewed K+12 as the answer to the poor quality of basic education and stern rebukes from “folks whose pocketbooks would be adversely impacted by the proposed additional 2 years of basic education” (Cruz, 2010).
