I do believe that Kalisch and Kalisch work is not that relevant in current times since the nursing image, in media, now is more focused on them as the center role in the care they give and personal problems they go through. Even though nurses are not being depicted as “sex objects” as much as the 1960’s, the media has to seek a way to entice their audience with drama. It seems as if the profession in media, was of very little insignificance and mainly because there was little to no representation for the profession or education about it. This show gave that spotlight to the nursing profession as the a smart, talented and experienced nurse but, also showed the ruthlessness of a drug seeking individual. (Turow, 2012) I would want people to think that all nurses are like her, but just as Kalisch & Kalisch research showed the good behaving nurses had a lower sex index score, this show has to give something of interest and unfortunately to get high ratings they depict such a great nurse with a real serious problem. For entertainment value, I see why they created such a drama filled show but I do not think that this is a portrayal of real nurses. I can see doing art work, fun facts, and maybe a documentary depicting a nurse’s role without disclosing any patient information or location where they work. (NCSBN, 2011) Unfortunately, since there is such a fine line from disclosing personal information and the potential of crossing that line, I would probably stay safe and maybe show more artistic images of nurses versus discussing life experiences. It actually dawns on me that society now relies on social media so much for anything and it saddens me that this is who we have become. I, for one, have a Facebook page and Instagram account but rarely post anything about my personal life on it. So as far as posting or using social media to enhance the image of a nursing, I wouldn’t think I could do it. It would take a lot or be of great significance for me to do. I understand the reason of promoting a great view of us as future nurses but, like I said it is something I am not truly comfortable doing this with my own life. It would be a big adjustment for me to
