The photograph Kalsoy by Wojciech Kruczynski is of a green, grassy island with a lone white lighthouse surrounded by nothing except the rolling, rocky hills. There is a shadow of another hill casted onto the bottom of the photograph with a lightly wore trail leading to the small lighthouse. The edges of the picture consist of deep blue ocean water that is crashing against the rocky cliffs of the island. At the top of the picture there is white cloud in the form of an arc hovering over the island and even touching the top of the highest point of the island. Towards the back left side of the island a little stretch of a rainbow can be seen sitting in the sky. In the background there are more rocky islands of in the distance, with darker clouds and deep blue skies. The photograph has the one lonely path going through the different up and downs of the island to the final destination of the lighthouse, similar to the long journey of life everyone goes on through the course of their existence, to get to their final destination or in the photograph the lighthouse.

He is also standing at the bottom of a mountain that is behind him, outside of the picture. The mountain that we can’t see creates the message and one of the greatest aspects of the picture, the shadow. If it weren’t for the mountain that he is standing below the path wouldn’t be traveling through the dark shade and into the light and the parts that are in the light wouldn’t look as beautiful. The photographer is also standing at a high point for the foreground where he is looking down at the first part of the photo but on a lower part of the island when it come to the other hills.
