Hey Xoe, please talk to your following about Standing Rock. More people need to know about what’s happening, because it’s horrible. It seems as though our native people are losing once again. Police are tormenting them on their land. I’m not sure if you know about what is happening, but I feel like it’s important to know, or to educate as many people as possible on the subject. A short summary of this situation would be that there is a an oil pipeline being put through the Standing Rock reservation in North and South Dakota. If you didn’t know oil pipelines have high rates of leaking which would cause the Native Americans living there not be able to use the natural water sources such a lake and rivers. The pipes also will most likely exploded,…
We fifth grade students are now moving on to middle school, and we had such a great experience, we would like to leave a memory of our class. The Eagle represents Signal Hill and means so much to our school community. We would like to replace the old carved wood Eagle that is displayed in the front of our school, which is rotting, with a new one. It would be presented as a gift to the Signal Hill Elementary School on behalf of the 2016 Signal Hill Graduating Class. We are asking for a donation of five dollars from the fifth grade students or whatever you feel appropriate.…
We are leaving Alcove Springs we are following the Platte River all the way to Fort Kearny which is 11 days on the trail and 319 miles. I think the walking is going to be very difficult for all of us. We were on the trail and our tongue on our wagon broke. I think that it broke when the ox were pulling our wagon and it connect to the ox it wasn’t strong in the first place so I think that putting more pressure on it made it break, it took us 2 days to repair. Grey clouds are starting to form in the sky the wind starts to blow really fast. It starts to hail and rain. I think there is going to be a really big storm. Fred tells everyone to stop and get under their wagon. Billy and Rae are really scared I’m am trying to comfort them but I am also very scared.…
My wagon train is now in Alcove Springs, we have been here for only a day. It is time to just have fun since we have had supper and all, so I decided to write during this time because I really don't have a lot of time to write throughout the trail, but I try.…
My first view of the river makes me breathless. Shallow water washes over the road’s cement pavement. Men, women, and kids break the river’s flow; some sit in fold-up chairs and read a book, but most others are leaning back in a colored tube floating the slow water. A giant cypress tree waits patiently by the road; two large nails pin a rusted metal sign to it, warning visitors of state rules and regulations. Every river crossing has the same sign posted the closet tree. The tree’s familiar sight and significance still makes me excited, because I finally feel summer vacation starting. However, the sight also makes me impatient for we don’t start tubing until the second day. I never…
When my trip commenced everything was going just as planned. I drove my Dad’s beat-up pickup truck up the Roan Plateau in hopes of having a quiet weekend with myself and the quaking aspens. At least that was the plan.…
Two friends and I climbed out of a car, stretching our legs and gathering our luggage. It was Sunday, and the end of our two day journey from my hometown in Connecticut to The Summit, a high adventure/service Boy Scout camp in West Virginia. The anticipation I had felt during the long trip quickly changed to apprehension and awe as I gazed…
Being Miss South Atlanta is not just a title in my opinion, it is something I have desired to become throughout my few years of high school. I have been a student attending South Atlanta High School since August 2014. School spirit was just something my school lacked. Last year, happened to be the first year I truly enjoyed homecoming, and as I stated I have been here since 2014. If I am elected Miss South Atlanta I will work with SGA and 12th grade Student Body in order to mark 2018 a year to remember.…
We have about three more days until we reach the Alcove Springs i’m excited cause i’ve heard that there's fresh clean water there. The only thing that i’m not happy about is that i’m really tired and my feet hurt from the big red sore blisters and that we had to throw off are piano that took so much money to get. It started getting dark out so we decided to go to bed. It's morning now everybody's up our backs are in so much pain because we had to sleep on rocky gravel but throughout the day the pain kinda starts going away. Our daughter is complaining that her feet hurt so with my sore back I had to carry her with my right hip while George was on my left hip. I got tired of holding her in thirty minutes so I had to have her ride on the wagon…
So we begin to walk the couple miles to the river, pulling our wagons. I am puzzled to mom’s cheerfulness after what I heard last night. I begin to wonder if this may be our last trip to the river. Our water was much too contaminated to even try to boil. The pipes ended up getting clogged and didn’t work anymore. Our family and others are very dependent on this river. Maybe, we’re all moving East, finally away from this nightmare. It’s where all my friends went. My parents were hoping the dust would all end soon enough. That’s why they decided to stay.…
When we started hiking down, I felt like collapsing. The trail seemed to never end. “I can do it,” I encouraged myself as I continued. Each step made my feet sting, but we finally made it to the bottom of the mountain. I collapsed on the soft, comfy, inviting seat of the car. Sitting down felt as pleasant as diving into a pool on a hot summer day. This hike was more important than I realized, I reflected on the way back. Instead of just proving Alay wrong, I had learned that if I tried really hard, I could achieve anything I wanted to. This was one lesson that I would remember my entire…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…
Attention Getter: I would like to start my presentation off by telling you all to ask yourselves a series of fairly straight forward questions. I want you to take a look at you’re, any hand and ask your selves “Who’s hand is this?” Do the same with your other hand, and now both legs and your arms if you would like. If I am not mistaking the answer to all your questions are mine right. They are your hands, legs, and arms. What I am trying to get through to you all today is that your body is your body and that a person should be able to profit of his or her own body if done in a safe and controlled way.…
