Through out reading Karen Leary's journey through Merrill Lynch I noticed various examples of emergent role systems. An emergent role systems are basically the activities that develop as individuals strive to follow the "script" but also satisfy their own needs. The first one that stuck out to me was when Karen was just starting at Merrill Lynch and realized that all the women here were average. Meaning they did basic work and were not going anywhere further in their careers she knew she needed to grow. Next after Karen furthered her career she decided she didn't want to sift in an office all day like other managers she wanted her own leadership style and would walk around the cubicles talking to clients and coaching, she decided she wanted to be an effective manager giving her workers immediate feedback instead of calling one by one into her office to observe them. She motivates the FC's and is very interested in helping them get started.
