The 36-year-old mom-of-one opted to wear a strapless full-length red brocade dress with black detailing. She paired the lovely frock with pointed heels in the same vibrant tone.
Heels and a train... nothing better #newyork #pennstation," the “The Giver” actress captioned the photo. In the photo, Holmes has her locks pulled back in a high messy bun and went on minimal with no visible makeup.
A source tells ET that the cute photo is actually from a photo shoot for a magazine taken over a year ago and that the whole idea was actually hers.
"She was at a shoot for a magazine and thought it would be interesting to do a shot in a train ... so she went down to Penn Station to take some pictures in her gown on the NJ Transit," the source says. "It was all rogue -- her idea."
But Holmes showed a completely different side of herself in August, when she showed some skin in an acid wash denim minidress at Walmart on the set of “All We Had”, her directorial debut. The film revolves around a mother who struggles to make a better life for her daughter.
The "Ray Donovan" star is currently filming "All We Had" in Brooklyn, which will also be her directorial debut. The actress also resides in New York with her 9-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise, who she welcomed into the world with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Holmes regularly shares photos of her adventures in New York City with her 200,000-plus followers on Instagram. On September 16, she posted a pic of the lit-up buildings after the sun had set, writing, "Manhattan," with a heart emoji.
