Katniss Everdeen Book Report

In the book, Katniss Everdeen, the main character, struggles to stay alive in the cruel hunger games that is established by the oppressive Capitol City, the leader of the twelve districts. For example, there was a war between the thirteen states and the capitol. After the war twelve states were defeated and the thirteenth was obliterated. The Capitol gained control of the remaining twelve states. As a punishment the Capitol made the hunger games. The hunger games is made up of a boy and girl from each district who will be imprisoned in a vast outdoor arena that could hold anything. Over a period of several weeks the competitors fight among themselves and the last one standing wins the games.(18) The winner receives a good life
while the others tributes are dead.(19) This shows the dangers of an oppressive government that can do anything to the people. Even when, Katniss and Peeta, the other tribute from district twelve, are selected to go in the games they were angry on the Capitol to select them for the games. In the games Peeta says to Katniss that “Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to show the Capitol they don’t own me. That I’m more than just a part of their Games.”.(142) This shows how the people feel about the cruel things that a powerful government can do to the people. From the story of The Hunger Games the readers come to know the hazard of having a government that has too much control over people.
