Sincerely,
You’re Teacher

The effects of Hurricane Georges in Louisiana included $30.1 million in damage and three deaths. Forming from a tropical wave over the Atlantic Ocean, Georges attained a peak intensity of 155 mph (250 km/h) on September 20, 1998. Over the following several days, the storm tracked through the Greater Antilles and later entered the Gulf of Mexico on September 28, the Category 2 storm made landfall in Mississippi before dissipating on October 1. Before landfall, about 500,000 residents in Louisiana evacuated from low-lying areas. The mayor of New Orleans declared a state of emergency to allow federal assistance into the state. After nearly 1.5 million people were urged to evacuate coastal areas, officials described the evacuation as "probably the largest [...] we have ever achieved".[1]…
There are several different reasons African Americans decided not to evacuate during Katrina. There were income restraints, lack of knowledge in a timely fashion and race bias.…
One day there was a hurricane this hurricane was known as Katrina. Izaac and Kamrin and Shane were playing football and we saw a deer and at that moment, a large gust of wind smacked the car in front of the deer. We went flying a few feet in the air when we gained our senses, and looked at the deer all we saw was deer guts and skin.…
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most deadliest hurricanes to affect the United States. The hurricane killed at least one thousand people and caused at least one hundred billion dollars in damage. The physical damage and the countless number of lives lost are typically all that is reflected upon when discussing Hurricane Katrina but the mental health effects of this devastating hurricane are also important to consider. In addition to its devastating physical affects, Hurricane Katrina has affected many mentally. Survivors of the natural disaster have been reported to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD, and depression.…
Setting aside the philosophical and legal issues this case raises, what are the management or efficiency arguments for and against a more centralized response to large national disasters like Hurricane Katrina?…
As one of the most destructive natural disasters in United States ' history, Hurricane Katrina took hundreds of lives and amounted to billions of dollars in damage. As victims see their fallen homes and shattered lives, they wonder how this catastrophe could have happened. Some argue that hurricanes are unpredictable phenomena that cannot be controlled, and that our government responded to the best of its ability. Others, however, realize that controlling a storm is completely different than preparing for one. While President Bush may not have control over the weather, he had experts predicting a catastrophe like Katrina years before it developed. The Gulf Coast region was completely exposed and unprepared for major hurricanes, but President…
The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina may be remarked as a very important aspect to understand the relationship between federal, state, and local governments when it comes to major catastrophe. In Katrina’s case, federalism is seen as central to what was largely a government-created disaster. Numerous scientific articles are trying to offer various interpretations of what went wrong and why; however, out of all perspectives, I find Stephen Griffin’s argument most persuasive.…
While with help, the victims can overcome some of the psychological symptoms, however disasters can affect children different than adults. September 11th and hurricane Katrina caused psychological symptoms for the victims along with issues and elements because victims can experience PTSD symptomatology, acute stress disorders, generalized anxiety disorders and DESNOS, Many different types of disaster can cause chronic disturbance and illness. The media can play a huge role in these symptoms due to the media replaying what happened over and over. Natural disasters and terrorism causes individuals to have short term and long term psychological symptoms due to the extreme impact of the event.…
Hurricane Katrina of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was the costliest hurricane, as well as one of the five deadliest in the history of the United States. The record of Atlantic hurricanes said it was the sixth strongest overall. Prior to Katrina, the most deadliest hurricane was the 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane. Hurricane Katrina was formed on August 23, 2005 over the Bahamas as a moderate Category 1 hurricane. The storm weakened before making its second landfall as a Category 3 storm on August 29 in southeast Louisiana. The majority of lives lost and property damage happened in New Orleans, Louisiana. The storm was estimated to be responsible for $ 81.2 billion in damage due to its destructive…
On Saturday August, 27th 2005 President Bush was notified about the news on Hurricane Katrina while on vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, and after hearing the news remained on his vacation and took no action to help aid the people of New Orleans (Dyson 63-64). When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans it was at a Category 5 hurricane. Many unnecessary lives were lost in the hurricane and in the events after the disaster hit. What was the reason for the extreme amount of lives lost, when the authorities had warning days before the actual hurricane hit? Eliza Hubbard believes the slow response to aid the people of New Orleans was racially motivated.…
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most destructive storms to ever hit the United States and left behind much devastation to the south coast, particularly New Orleans, Louisiana. However, there were many ways that some of this physical and emotional damage could have been prevented, particularly by the government systems and engineers. When the Levees Broke, a movie directed by Spike Lee, clearly showed this and the interviews of those who lived through the storm were truly heart wrenching. However, there were some strengths that came out of this event, such as the close bond the communities developed and/or sustained, as well as the heroic efforts of some politicians and military officers.…
When writing essays, most people eschew away from the abhorrent topic of plagiarism. It wasn’t until I became older that I realized I was copying someone else’s work without crediting it to them. Why do teachers wait until high school to explain to students about plagiarism? They are trying to prepare us for thepestiferous place known as “the real world”. When you are at a developed age, the implied action of plagiarism should be indemnified in consequences. Many times have I been in trouble for copying others work, but I have learned from those mistakes and to my time to learn how to cite quotes and use my own ideas instead of…
Following hurricane Katrina many people wonder whether the country’s worst natural disaster was due to a lack of preparation by the government or more with race or with class. The media showed nearly all those left behind to suffer and die were black Americans – basically looking like race. However, those families who had resources to afford homes in safer flood-protected area suffered less than poorer families, which seemed more of a class issue. There was no denying it that most of the death was that of poor and black Americans. As a result, the public believed that racism slowed the government response to Hurricane Katrina and its…
Plagiarism can be exposed in many other way ways, not just simply copying one’s work word for word without using quotation marks. Be always mindful to also give the author credibility by also including the source in the bibliography. Plagiarism is shown not just through copying word for word, but also through small ideas and information that are used from other sources and incorporating it as your own without citing the source(Plagiarism).…
