In an ideal educational system preservice teachers will either refrain or use tracking as an efficient method to help students succeed. In the reading Keeping Track How Schools Structure Inequality by Jeannie Oakes she brings to light many issues that have been caused by tracking as students are praised while others are held back due to their inability to learn as quickly and efficiently as there fellow classmates. There has been multiple efforts to use tracking and it seems that when doing the reading and when students shared their own personal stories during class tracking seemed to do more harm than good. I myself felt victimized by tracking as in my school a public charter the “smarter students” who did better were always typically grouped together whether it be AP classes or during exams. For example this article highlighted making concepts easier for students to understand by helping them learn in the strategies easier for themselves. As preservice teachers we should be aware of all the different learning methods and learning speeds as not every single students is able to learn material the same. As a preservice teacher it is important that as we assess students to better there learning and when assessing that we take into consideration students learning capabilities. For instance students can all relate and have personal connections to different topics therefore as preservice teacher when compiling presentations and lectures for students it should be beneficial for student that we take their interest into consideration. It is crucial to be aware of what exactly students relate to and what they can make personal connections to as students will more intrigued in learning material if they can make personal connections or even references back to. Moreover, I had previously mentioned there are many ways that students learns therefore it is important to take into account this learning methods such as students may be visual learners which should be a reason for teacher to include more graphs and images to help their learning.
