Johannes Kepler is a well renowned scientist, who is well known for his discovery of the laws that define the movement of the planets in the universe. With well defined studied and researches, Kepler has defined three main laws defining the planetary motion. These laws give a clear overview of the way things move around and are used by the engineers for the development of all related equipment, devices and even the study of the planets. We would hence discuss these laws briefly for understanding his stand on these motions.
The first law explains the shape of the orbit in which every planet moves around. It is shown by him that every planet follows an orbit that acts as an ellipse to the sun located at the center. This explains the movement of the planets around the sun day in and day out. Also known as the ellipse law, this law has helped engineers a great deal in monitoring the movement of the planets from one position to another. The focal point and the loci is always taken as the sun. The satellites and the spacecrafts designed by the engineers all need to make use of this law for higher accuracy.
The second law talks more about the areas covered by the planets while moving around the sun. This is also commonly known as the law of the equal areas because it says that the whenever you draw an imaginary line from the center of the planet to the center of the sun, it would cover an equal area at all times. This means that the planets are not going closer or farther away from the sun. This law also helps in understanding the speed at which the planets move and hence is again extremely beneficial for the engineers to study.
Kepler’s third law is well known as the law of harmonics, which defines some mathematical relationships in the motion of the planets. This law helps in establishing a comparison between the orbital period and the radius of the orbit of several different planets. Engineers have found this law extremely helpful
