An Alzheimer's patient, Steve Newport, saw his symptoms slow, stop, and then reverse by the simple addition of coconut oil to his daily diet. The coconut oil is made up of sixty percent …show more content…
MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides). MCT are immediately converted into ketones in the liver and transported by the blood. The blood delivers the cells this newfound energy. Ketones do not need to use insulin to pass through the blood/brain barrier therefore, it does not matter if someone’s cerebral tissue is insulin sensitive or not, the tissue will receive high quality ketones. Researchers started implementing the ketogenic diet to treat seizures back in the 1920’s when they noticed it helped epilepsy patients.
A seizure is defined as, “a disruption of the electrical communication between neurons” (NINDS Epilepsy Information Page) which is often debilitating in daily life for most patients. Epilepsy research conducted on animals concluded, “Direct injection of ACA and acetone into animal models of epilepsy prevented seizures, hinting that ketone bodies may directly suppress seizure activity” (Brain, Livin’ on Ketones). Due to common day pharmacy we now take pills that reduce seizures but for people who don't want to get their children to go on a pharmacy diet they can use the ketogenic diet to produce ketones endogenously reducing seizures. The National Library of Medicine says, “Children with epilepsy due to mutations in GLUT-1, which transports glucose across the blood-brain barrier, suffer from seizures in infancy. If not identified and treated, they develop microcephaly, mental retardation, spasticity, and ataxia as a consequence of relative brain hypoglycemia. These children respond well to the ketogenic diet, as it is believed to provide an alternative fuel source for their central nervous system” (Barañano, Kristin W., and Adam L. Hartman). Research around ketosis and health benefits of the ketogenic diet has continued to support the benefits of this diet change to treat many diseases including: obesity, inflammation, and …show more content…
epilepsy. The National Cancer Institute says there’s over 13.7 million people living with cancer in America which makes Cancer inevitable for many. There has been billions of dollars in the study for a cure to cancer. “Cancer cells express an abnormal metabolism characterized by increased glucose consumption owing to genetic mutations and mitochondrial dysfunction. Previous studies indicate that unlike healthy tissues, cancer cells are unable to effectively use ketone bodies for energy” (Result FIlters). Many people have had success with beating cancer by switching their metabolic state from glycolysis over to ketosis to starve cancer growth using exogenous ketones to help shrink cancer cells with promising results. With billions of dollars going towards treating cancer customers like this you can see how big pharmacy wouldn't want to prescribe a metabolite that doesn't feed cancer and helps reduce it. Seems like they would rather have your money and shoot you with radiation. A researcher from National Cancer Institute says, “If newly developed tools for cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up continue to be more expensive, medical expenditures for cancer could reach as high as $207 billion” (Cancer Cost Projected). As emphasised throughout this paper, switching over to a ketogenic diet can be beneficial to every person in glycolysis. One of the big questions that frequently arises with this high fat conversation is the concern about high cholesterol. Most of the people we run into fear a high fat diet because of Americans’ number one killer, Cardiovascular Heart Disease. In the article “Treat the Inflammation not the Cholesterol” Dr. Dwight Lundell, former Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Banner Heart Hospital in Arizona. With over 5,000 open heart surgery and 25 years experience Dr. Dwight Lundell informs the public not to take Statin drugs. He explains, “We know that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease. Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol can accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes” (Dr. Sircus). He continues by naming the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation. The overload of simple carbohydrates, too much Omega-6 vegetable oil and “Low magnesium though is the most basic culprit as is excessive irregular breathing, which reduces both CO2 and O2 levels in the body, both of which cause systemic inflammation” (Dr. Sircus). So if he is informing society to refrain from taking Statin drugs, what alternative should people use to fight or prevent Cardiovascular Heart Disease? He says, “Magnesium is the perfect medicine for cardiologists. It is the nutritional medicinal with pharmaceutical properties that no allopathic drug can hope to equal, yet doctors routinely ignore it” (Dr. Sircus). Now knowing ingesting high carbohydrates, high vegetable oil, and low magnesium foods cause Cardiovascular Heart Disease (CVHD) versus a ketogenic diet with magnesium supplements may actually help, prevent and even reverse CVHD. In conclusion, it is proven a N8tive state is superior to the standard american diet way of running human metabolism.
In ketosis, people will be blessed with long sustainable energy while using their body fat for fuel. The ketones created endogenously will create a muscle sparing effect so there will be no need to worry about oxidation of muscle during restricted calories or intense workouts. While with SAD, there is a direct relationship in diets with high carbohydrate intake and being the number one cause of inflammation. Another factor with SAD is the link of inflammation as the number one cause and acceleration of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Heart Disease. Sugar is the number one cause for insulin release which is then main reactant of accelerated aging, fat storage, Type 2 and 3 diabetes. These diseases have costs in the tens, if not hundreds of billions, of dollars. If the human population were to switch over to a ketogenic lifestyle there would be numerous health benefits just from the restrictions of carbohydrates. There would less high carbohydrate, metabolic problems, inflammation, and diseases. Health conditions would actually be reversed due to the low carbohydrate intake and the anti-inflammation properties of ketones. When ketones are used to fuel the brain, the chances of developing neurological degenerative diseases diminish greatly all while the cognitive functions of the brain increase. These are the many factors solidifying
why ketosis is better than the everyday average diets.
