The Civil Rights Movement was founded right after the World War II during the 1950s and 1960. It was originated from African American's and their aspirations and community strengths. Some key events of the Civil Rights Movements would be one that involved Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was a civil rights activist who refused to give her seat to a white passenger while on the bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Rosa Parks was arrested for the refusal of her seat and she was also fined. This issue started a boycott in the city of the public busses in Montgomery. Dr Martin Luther King organized the Montgomery bus boycott. There were more than thirty thousand African Americans who were called to boycott against the city's busses.
During this boycott all blacks found other ways to get to work, school, church and places they needed to go instead of taking the bus and this …show more content…
lasted for three hundred and eighty-one days. People car pooled and there were private cars that provided people with ways to get around. However the people that boycotted were pressed with arrests and traffic tickets. To them it seemed to last a long time but soon it ended and the boycotters won.
Another key event of the Civil Rights Movement involved Dr Martin Luther King.
Dr King was arrested and put in jail during a protest for segregation in many public places. The court had ordered that there could not be any protesting going on. After Dr King was let out of jail the protest became more intense. The SCLS gained many students for a thing called the children's crusade. The protest ended and jobs were to begin hiring African Americans for jobs. Once this happened Klu Klux Klansmen heard about it and basically acted violently and burned a cross in the park of Birmingham. This started more riots and African Americans started to care less about the non violence instead they needed the police beatings to stop and they needed jobs and
homes.
Through all of these violent acts that happened an important personality that would be focused on is Martin Luther King's. King Did everything in a well mannered way. He had so much ambition to achieve his goals and stop segregation which he did achieve. He wanted everyone to come together as one and be equal not separated and for all the violence to stop. However he did make everything happen that he wanted to happen it just took time.
There were many other key events that happened in the Civil Rights Movement, Another Main one was the Freedom Rides. The year of 1961 James Farmer who was a national director planned to take a Freedom Ride through the South. The orders of the court were banning segregation on highways and terminals. Farmer said that their intentions "was to provoke the southern authorities into arresting us and thereby prod the Justice Department into enforcing the law of the land." Seven blacks and six whites split into groups on May 4th on busses from Washington to go to Alabama and Mississippi for what was called the Freedom Ride. When one of the busses stopped in Alabama a crowd of people surrounded the bus and damaged it by doing violent things like slashing the tires and busting out the windows. The crow beat the Freedom Riders with all sorts of weapons like iron bars, and clubs. The police did not help any of the Freedom Riders nor did they arrest anyone for the violent activity.
The Civil Rights act had many events and it did serve as a blueprint for other social movements. It served as a blueprint for the Asian Americans, Native Americans, Mexican Immigrants, and Puerto Ricans. All of these people had similarities from being denied their civil rights. However it was not just blacks that had to go through a hard time to gain their rights other minorities went through events as well.
