Kickapoo Cavern State Park In Texas

Kickapoo cavern state park is one of Texas’s most southern state parks. It rests only 57 miles away from the border with Mexico and 22 miles from the closest town, Brackettville, in Texas. It’s location in the south gives it a very dry and hot climate with primarily shrubbery and grasses. The only problem brought about by it’s location is that it is a very far drive from most areas of Texas.

The campsites given to campers are typically very small rocky areas surrounded by small mesquite trees. Most campsites provide water that is available for use ,but should not be drank, as well as a small fire ring for campfires. The park does not provide firewood and thus campers must search for their own on the grounds throughout the park. It is also home to many cedar trees so those of us with allergies need to be sure to bring some medicine so our communion with nature doesn’t become a case of the sniffles.
Along the trails hikers are likely to see many of the common mammals that roam throughout Texas like the white-tailed deer, raccoons,armadillos, gray foxes, and porcupines. Any new hikers should beware that it is in the middle of the Hill country so all of the trails will be moving up and down gradual and sometimes even precarious slopes so be well prepared with enough water and a good breakfast to make the journey worth
