Kidnap
Heatwaves radiated off the asphalt as the cars lumbered lazily down the highway. Rays of the hot sun beat down like drumbeats, steady and relentless. The journey home was made treacherous by the carnivorous heat from the high afternoon sun that was attacking my exposed limbs. I licked at the brackish taste of perspiration on my cracked lips, trying to moisten them.”Urrgh! so hot” I gasped as I gulped down the last mouth of water. It was another one of those typically hot and sunny days, with me carrying my school bag that was filled to the brim with homework. Groaning at the the thought of the amount of homework waiting for me inside my school bag, I quickened my footsteps to the bus stop, so that I could reach home quickly and start my homework.
However, as I was nearing the bus stop, I realized that my surroundings were deserted. Not a soul was in sight. My blood ran cold. Fear gripped me as I realized that I was completely deserted by myself. The erratic thumping of my heart was driving me into a deeper panic. Lost in my own thoughts, I failed to notice a minivan driving at breakneck speed towards me. Suddenly, I was being thrown into a rothe side door slid open and two men jumped out, one clasping his hand across my mouth the other grabbing my legs, I was carried into the van. I was forced to sit down with my arms by my side, one of the men pulled out a roll of tape and tied my hands together, then while blindfolds were being placed over my eyes, the van stopped I was led to a small riverboat. I tried to scream, but my captors just lauthed and sent photos of my captivity to my family
At night, I heard the captors demand for ransom in the room next to mine. Oblivious to me, the “parents”on the other line were listening in disbelief as their daughter was beside them. The kidnapper’s frustration in the room was also rising whan they realsed that insteadof kidnapping the millionare’s daughter, they had accidentally captured me, a family that was not wealthy nor

“It’s like a crater, a hole where something happened” (Donoghue 321). Yet, this crater is flooded with so much more than the dust that provides a thin sheet of remembrance between the event in time and reality. It symbolizes not only the loss of innocence, but also the stripping away of freedom, both intellectually and physiologically, leaving the victim with a deluge of emotional struggles as he or he begins their journey towards a sense of normalcy. Unfortunately, this brutal reality is apparent for every single kidnapping victim.…

Imagine being out in the fields hunting with your father. It has been a long day and a spitted warthog hangs between you. All of a sudden you are ambushed! An enemy tribe attacks you and your father. You fight using your makeshift spear but are overwhelmed by the number of tribesmen. You are hit in the head with a rock and fall unconscious. When you wake you are being loaded into a great wooden monster. You cringe in fear as you and your fellow captives are herded into this great wooden beast. You scream in protest at the white men who have chained you but they just beat you on the head with their rifles. You are taken into a dark and disgusting hold. The prisoners next to you are screaming in fear. The smell of waste and vomit permeates everything. As a white man chains you down below you think of your family and realize you are never going to see them again. Sleep comes slowly because of the cries of pain and misery; the rocking of the floor eventually puts you to sleep. A long time has passed. Your days consist of sleeping in your own filth, eating a disgusting porridge, and rarely seeing outside your hold. But one day the hold is opened and bright light blinds you. You are lifted to your weakened legs and led outside. The land is alien to you, and white men are everywhere. You are paraded in front of a great throng of white people. The humiliation is great as you are poked and inspected. Eventually you are shackled and loaded onto a horse-drawn cart. The ride is long and uncomfortable and the destination more frightening. You have no idea what is going to happen to you and are very much afraid. You come to a great house and are taken to the fields around the house. You are given into the custody of a great white brute. He puts you into a small cottage with other black men. You have a very difficult time understanding their languages but eventually they get a message across to you: You are a slave, and will live the rest of your days as one.…

are given an insight into the characters and their thoughts. Achilles is renowned as a warrior and a strong man and even his raw emotions and thoughts are revealed by Malouf. This allows the reader to establish that Achilles mind, “even in its passive state, the most active part of him.” The closeness of the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus is drawn upon by Achilles own reflections on his soulmate. Achilles describes Patroclus as the, “other before he could fully become himself,” and his recollection that, “he had been mated with Achilles,” solidifies the tight bond that exists between the two. The subsequent grief from Patroclus’ death, plagues Achilles mind and Achilles, “(weeps) without restraint,” and lets the resulting, “self-consuming rage waste his spirit in despair.” Despite Achilles’,” never (betraying) to others what he felt,” these descriptions of Achilles feelings allows the reader to enter his mind and understand his grief and how much he is, “waiting for a break.” .Similar to Achilles, Priam too experiences, “grief that racks him… for his son Hector.” Beyond this, Priam also is worried by the responsibility that he has to save his kingdom, “ravaged and threatened with extinction.” Like Achilles, Priam has long hidden his past as Pordaces and this past leads him to believe himself as a, “pretender, substitute,” and a,” great one of this Earth, only be default.” These thoughts are unfamiliar to that of a king and Malouf brings out these thoughts to show Priam is indeed, “the price paid. “The actions of Priam to seek change only solidify his difference to other kings. Priam insists that the,” old filth stinks,” and this asserts the influence that the past has had on Priam and how it continues to persist in his thoughts. Although the role of women is downplayed in Ransom as the focus is on the men and war, Hecuba’s animated reaction to Priam’s dream brings out how she as a women still has somewhat of a say. Hecuba describes Achilles as,”…
