Kidnapped For Christ Analysis

Kidnapped for Christ was just supposed to be a documentary by Kate Logan that aimed to document the life of struggling teenagers sent to Escuela Caribe, a Christian boarding school located in the Dominican Republic. But as she went down into the condition of these people, what can be called part of the modern-day anawim, she found out more than what she needed. Her faith was shaken, and she found herself questioning not only God but also her faith, into the Christianity she believed in. She had anticipated positive effects on these teenagers, and while the school did elicit these reactions on some, she was unprepared for the emotional distress it gave not only to her but even to the subjects of her documentary. Escuela Caribe was intended to be a home for teenagers who encounter various issues with their parents or community. Logan interviewed three students: Beth, Tai, and David. With each having a unique story to tell, she uncovers that behind the notion of people (parents, especially) of the school’s intention to “change” these people through Christianity, are cases of abuse, of parents forcefully taking and making decisions for their children, brainwashing, of twisting Scripture and Christian tradition.
