First of all their shouldn't be year round school because kids need a break from school. Kids go to school at least 180 days a year and that is enough learning. Kids can learn things like different sports and different summer camps - kids can learn different things! At summer camps kids can learn independence. “I think the single most important thing camp teaches children is to be independent," says Karen Rosenbach. They have to figure things out on their own, live with lots of other kids and make it work -- invaluable life lessons." Also, you can learn from taking vacations in the summer. For example, if someone goes to Hawaii they can learn about the Hawaiian culture. Mandy Viccaji from family vacation clinic says “Going to Alaska my kid learned about whale watching, learned about totem poles and Eskimo culture, panned for gold, and saw glaciers first-hand.” Kids can also learn from sports! Experts from Livestrong say “Learning to cooperate with others towards a common goal in sports is what builds character, friendship and important life skills for players and coaches. The friendships built within a team can last a lifetime for some players…” On the other hand kids could get done with school faster. But kids need a break to get motivated for the next year in school so they would do better and get better grades. There should not be year round school! What are some cons for public schools to change the school to an all year round school? Educators shouldn’t make the school an all year round school because the students will get less time to be with their families, less time with their outside school activities, and also more time in school would be harder for the students to pay attention.…

The traditional schedule for school is outdated because in the old days, it allowed for children to help harvest crops during the summer. Now, the long summer just enables kids to be lazy and easily forget what they learned at the end of the previous school year. If a year round school year were to be implemented, kids would not be able to be as lazy and breaks would not be so long as to let kids forget a whole bunch of their school curriculum.…

Year round school can decrease the number of theft at school by having the building be occupied for all of the year (cde.ca.gov). “With less theft, the school would feel like a safer place to be in for students. Parents would feel better about sending their children to school if it is a friendlier place.” Year round school can stop some of the bullying and vandalism in schools (cde.ca.gov).With less vandalism and bullying, schools would be able to do more things and the school would feel safer. With less people who go to school who want to make the school environment worse, there would be a high school academic achievement average. Less theft, vandalism and bullying would make a healthier school environment and better academic…

One of the major benefits of year-round school is that it aids students in a way that they can increase their overall grade. Students are less likely to forget what they have previously learned in school due to the lack of large breaks in the school year. Most importantly, there is more time. More time for school means more time can be devoted to each unit or section of material a teacher is covering. Less pressure to learn information in two weeks or even a month can help students apply their new knowledge to the long-term memory and gives more time for student to comprehend ideas in a more complex manor.…

Would a year-round school schedule improve students’ academic performance? There are many debates on whether schools should extend their educational calendar to a full year. While year-round school schedules have their share of benefits, there are also negative outcomes. People often claim the more the better, but what really matters is the quality, not quantity, of education. Year-round schooling should not be organized because students may develop health issues, wouldn’t be prepared for college, and students may miss out on other opportunities during the summer.…

There are many approaches that might interest you about year-round schools, but here are three that I find interesting. The first fact about year-round school is that they have short breaks every so often. In the article Year Round School vs. Traditional Schedules in Public Schools it states, “...many schools are getting rid of the traditional summer vacation, yet are simultaneously providing students with more frequent and consistent breaks from school.” Since the traditional summer vacation of around 3 months is no longer essential some experts are saying that the traditional schools are not what is best for today’s children. The second fact about year-round school is that they have schedules that may very slightly. In the article it states, “...the most popular schedule is what’s called a 45-15 plan…”. Which means that children go to school for 45 days and then have 15 days off. The last fact about year-round school is that many states and places have taken part in the year-round…

The question everyone's asking it should we have year round school? Well, I'm here to answer that question with a little help from Brigid Schulte on the Washington post. We should not have year round school because it can cut into family activities. Here is some thoughts from the Washington post. Still, when Mount Vernon Community School first considered the idea of going to a modified calendar a few years ago, it was a battle royale. Some middle-class parents argued that it was important for children to lie on their backs and watch the clouds for hours over a long summer break. This post is by Brigid Schulte and posted on 2009/06/05. This is why Michigan schools should not go to a year round calendar because it…

School should not have year-round school. Parents will struggle a lot with everything. Parents would not be able to go visit family without their kids missing school. Parents might have different work schedule and would struggle to look for rides for there kids. They would not be able to travel as much. Students sports will be cut. The sports will end earlier and start later than they usually have to start and end. A lot of kids would not be happy with that. It will mess up parents and confuse them with their schedules. Buses schedules will have to arrange their times. Buses have other places to be but if they have school all year-round busses would not have time for the other places. Buses would struggle because elementry can start a different time and high school a different time. The kids would have to go by themself if there older sibling starts at a different time.…

Students are best served in a traditional school system. Just imagine what it would be like to have to go to school in the middle of what would be a traditional year round summer vacation. That is a reality for thousands of kids across the United States. This is why I believe that the traditional school system is more beneficial than a year round system. Year round schools have disruptive schedules, the day amounts end up being the same in year round and traditional school and, year round schools cost more to maintain and run year round.…

When most student are asked about year-round school they think it means giving up their summer, but that’s not exactly right. Year-round school doesn’t necessarily mean giving up summer vacation. There are variety of calendars school districts follow. The current school year is based on an outdated agricultural model, when families need to use their children to help them with a harvest. Most families aren’t like that anymore. It’s time to update the school calendar to reflect modern society. Year-round schooling calendar would be beneficial to students.…

One of the major points for year round schooling is that students would learn more because they would be in the classroom more often. This however, has been proven to be false, as a 2007 Ohio State University study stated that students in year-round schools do not learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools (Long). Schools with a year-round system often use it in an attempt to eliminate the lose of knowledge that can occur over the summer months, but this can also happen to students in year-round schools, as some have breaks that last over a month. This can be more than enough time for students to forget what they have learned. While the year-round schooling is often incorporated to help accommodate more students in schools that struggle with overcrowding, the change ends up making both teachers and parents struggle more than they would in a normal schedule. Year-round schooling would mean that the teachers would have to constantly be at work teaching a class of students, all year round, with little to no breaks. Parents would also have to be running their children around a lot more, especially during the summer…

    Year Long School Year

Many schools in the United States are beginning to change their school calendar so their students attend class all year round. The changes still allow the students time off in the summer, but they do not have the three months of break most students in America receive traditionally. Instead, they get a break of a couple weeks in the summer, and the remainder of the time is divided up and put into other breaks throughout the year. All schools in America should switch to a year-round calendar to accommodate the different and higher level of learning needed to be successful in our changing world and society. The traditional school system was designed many years ago when our country was an agricultural nation. Therefore, the school calendar was developed having a long break in the summer so students could assist their family with cultivating crops and other aspects of farm life. The traditional school calendar was not a calendar for higher learning, and should be extended to meet the needs of modern day students. There are many explanations as to why the traditional school calendar should be changed.…

    12 month school year

I feel that a 12 month school year is not good for the students. For instance, if students had to do school work all year they will not work as well as they would in a normal school year. They also would not get the break they needed to get away from school and would be tired all the time and not want to do anything. They also would never want to go to school being there all year. Plus without a summer break students would never want to do anything. I assume there are a few students who would rather go this route, but most would hate it. I do believe we should tailor the school curriculum towards what the majority of students want.…
