For my job shadowing assignment I decided to job shadow my mom. My mom owns her own business and I thought it would be interesting to see how much work and effort it actually takes to run a business. Although business seems to be detached from the major I would like to pursue, ecology, I still wanted to explore and learn about running a business.
I began my job shadowing at 11 in the morning. My mom begins her typical Wednesday by prepping the cash register and the front. She does things such as making sure the correct amount of money is in the register, cleaning her place of work, and making sure that she is not missing anything from her weekly order to places such as SYSCO or USFOODS. My mom has gained a great amount of experience and knowledge due to the fact of her being in the business for quite a while.
This was much like a typical day. My mom usually works form 11 in the morning until 1 or 2 in the afternoon. She is only there to supervise during that time or sometimes if it gets very busy she’ll jump in the register to help. The most stressful part of working at the restaurant would have to be the fact that you deal with people on a daily basis. This makes it very hard, say that you’re having a ruff day, well that doesn’t really matter when it comes to work, you must leave all the personal baggage at home. Also being able to handle the register and memorizing the prices of each individual item can be very tedious at times.
The job was somewhat more difficult than I anticipated. A lot goes into running a business, especially a restaurant, which is open 7 days a week. It’s hard work every day, and organization is key. Small things such as ordering certain foods or even making up a schedule for the employees can be very time consuming and stressful.
I believe that this experience has helped me grow as a person. It has pushed me even closer to my goal of majoring in ecology. I don’t think I would have the ability to deal with such a strict daily routine or working indoors for a grand portion of the day. This experience has also made me value my mom for doing such a stressful job and making it look so easy. All in all this experience was very beneficial for me.

Stated is what I observed: • During the whole time that I was observing, no workers came up to me • I observed that out of all the sauces provided in the sauce bar, creamy garlic was the most popular • All sides were made before customers arrived and were arranged in the middle of the kitchen in metal tubs. This could be for easy access and faster serving time. • Why did customers prefer sitting down and eating at the restaurant rather than ordering to go? • Why did a majority of customers come in groups rather than alone? • I observed two interviews that occurred in the restaurant, one with a girl who seems young, maybe a teenager, and one with an older lady, maybe in the late…

The GM was solely concerned about the orders getting out in less than 5 minutes but did not consider the managers to be the problem no, it must have been those “punk” teenagers who work there. The managers were also getting more annoying. They would give us the most tedious and boring jobs and then yell at us if we did not do them fast enough. On this particular day, I had been yelled at a couple of times. They made me do the crappy jobs again. I got off late again. That night something inside of me snapped. I looked in the mirror, and I didn't like what I saw. I remember saying to myself, look at what you have done to yourself; you've aged ten years in the nine months you've worked there. In the coming weeks I put in my notice and deuced out (left). I have lived the rest of my days in peace knowing that I would never have to go back to that succubus of a restaurant, and understanding how bad those workers really have…

Working in the food industry is very different everyplace. Working for the Yum Brand Company they have numerous restaurants but the one that I worked for was KFC & Taco Bell. When working for a company like this you have to have patience and skills. When I worked for KFC I made minimum wage, worked long hours, late hours, and dealt with rude people. When I worked for KFC I would always work the drive through and always have to yell to get the orders out as fast as you can because you are on a timer. KFC & Taco Bell is a fast food chain, not healthy even though they have the healthier menu; all of the food was not fresh. Everything was frozen and on hormones. KFC and Taco Bell offered vacation hours after a certain amount of time. If you happen to be sick, you have to come in and prove to them that you are sick and even bring in doctors notes because KFC does not have enough staff for each location.…

I selected to job shadow my mom actually because I couldn't find anyone to shadow in the career that I wanted, so my only other choice was to do my mom. I wasn't really too interested in doing that job at first, but that's what I needed to do. I spent my day watching and helping my mom checking out stock systems and how it works. I was also able to use the office equipment. I wore nice black pants with a nice sweater. We left the building for lunch, and went somewhere else to eat, like my mom does a lot of the time. During the interview, I asked her the questions, and she answered, explaining as she went along, and I was not able to catch it all. So I learned a whole lot about the job by doing the interview. I left at about 2:00 to 3:00 (I am not too sure exactly when) because my mom had some important work she needed to do, that I really couldn't help with. My favorite experience that day was actually finding out how stocks work, saving money, and information like that.…

There is so much more that goes into selling a restaurant than the actual buying of food. However, once we got back to the restaurant it was boring because I had to sit there and…

ABSTRACT: In this paper, we propose to segment color images of natural scenes by pixel clustering in different color spaces in order to compare the performances of the color spaces. Eight color spaces are evaluated, including perceptual and non-perceptual color spaces. The clustering methods applied in this work are k-means and its extensions. Segmentation results are evaluated by calculating the degree of matching with the benchmark created by manual labeling, and visual evaluation is also applied as a reference. A series of experiments were designed and conducted. Results show that the performances of the color spaces are dependent on the scenes, and it is possible to choose a proper color space manually for a specific image scene segmentation task according to the data dependency patterns analyzed from the experiment results. Key words: color image segmentation, natural scenes, color spaces, k-means clustering…
