Killer Angels Robert Lee Character Analysis
The character from Killer Angels that I admire is General Robert E. Lee. He is daring, smart, genuine, and he doesn’t panic when things don’t go his way. He does what he thinks is right, and doesn’t only think of himself.
I admire his ability to take the blame for his faults, and apologize, in the afterward of the book (page 349) Lee says “No blame can be attached to the army for its failure to accomplish what was projected by me… I alone am to blame, in perhaps expecting too much of its prowess and valor…” I look up to his because he didn’t shove the blame onto someone else he stood up and said what was right which was that it was his fault they lost the battle of Gettysburg because he didn’t listen to Longstreet, and proceeded on with his

In his piece, Dwight R. Lee explains that with oil drilling the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, there would be many benefits as compared to the cost. He doesn’t deny that there would be risks associated with the drilling. However, he feels that they do not begin to compare to the benefits. He explains that the main reason that this has become such a hot topic is because of the high prices of gasoline and oil. One company that he looks at is the National Audubon Society. They are against opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling because they feel that it will “destroy the integrity.” This is the same company that owns the 26,000 acre Rainey Wildlife Sanctuary and opens it to drilling. By allowing this drilling, the Audubon Society has received more than $25 million. This has allowed them to own other wildlife and wilderness land.…

Bruce Catton focuses on both the differences and similarities between Civil War Generals in "Grant and Lee: A Study in Contrasts". He looks at the fact that both Grant and Lee grew up in America. Robert E Lee planed to have 15000 troops assault Cemetery Ridge in a all out ground assault that was about three-quarters of a mile. The confederates underestimated the terrain but advanced anyway. Part of the confederates that were ordered to attack drifted off of the attack line that left them exposed. The confederates continued to assault and but the unions reinforcements arrived and drove back the confederates while any survivors ran back in retreat. In “To Kill A Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch is a moral man because he sets good examples for his children because he portrays a leading figure by using his words, not fists, not judging a person until you get to understand who they are, and being able to get along with just about anyone. Atticus believed in fighting with words, not fists. “Hold your head high and keep those fists down”(Lee 76), as the story develops, Atticus reveals that he is a moral man by believing in the power of words, and that fists are not necessary in settling a feud/argument, I also envision that this applies especially to him because he is lawyer and uses words in his…

When Catton says that Grant “was everything Lee was not” (310) he means that Grant and Lee were two very different people from the way they were raised to their views of American life. Grant was very tough and courageous, raised from in the western frontier. He was a man who held his head up high, looked towards the future, and was determined to follow through with his ideas of a “new” American life. In contrast, Lee was a Virginia man who believed in old aristocracy. “He was one of a body of men who owed reverence and obeisance to no one, who were self-reliant to a fault, who cared hardly anything for the past but who had a sharp eye for the future” (Catton 310). When Catton said this he was trying to let the reader know that Lee had a more…

    3. What is Lee’s intent by having Scout say: “…As for me, I knew nothing except what I gathered from Time magazine and reading everything I could lay hands on at home, but as I inched sluggishly along the treadmill of the Maycomb County school system, I could not help receiving the impression that I was being cheated out of something. Out of what I knew not, yet I did believe that twelve years of unrelieved boredom was exactly what the state had in mind for me.”…

“War does not determine who is right - only who is left.” This quote was written by Bertrand Russell, a British author, mathematician, and philosopher. This quote explains that in war it does not matter whether or not you do the right thing, but whether or not you know how to survive. This quote relates to Liam O’ Flaherty’s short story and Thomas Hardy’s poem. In “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty and “The Man He killed” by Thomas Hardy both literary works show similarities and differences by the use of plot, irony, and theme.…

I’ve always looked for a meaning or purpose that could connect with my life, but how can a 17 year old boy decipher and discover such a thing on his own? A possibility can be found through ways of expressing passion to the public. Such as movies, songs, poems, or even a piece of art. And even though I have seen or found some type of message in all these, I’ve found a special one with a film by the name of The American Sniper. This is a film about a U.S Navy Seal Officer by the name of Chris Kyle that was during the fight on terrorism. The things I can take from this film that lets it connect so well with my life is a certain scene about a saying of a sheep dog, and the similarities I can see with the protagonist and my father. Ideas and…
