Your Presentation Topic:
KIN 3079 Post Test
Tests can be used as a teaching tool, so that is what this is, a teaching tool. Hopefully enough of the information that you presented to your peers “stuck” so that you have a basic knowledge of fitness. This is to find out what you remember and let you know what I think is important. If you go on line to look up the answers, that’s fine, at least you know where to find the information. Start a folder, either hard copy or on digital so you have the information handy. Please return to me or put it in my box by next Tuesday, March 11 before class. Digital or hard copy, doesn’t matter and it will only help your grade. I will email you the “answers” along with the grade you earned in the fitness portion of the class by Thursday March 13.

What are the five areas of health related fitness? Give a brief definition and the fitness test that measures that component.
Cardiovascular Fitness: Cardiovascular fitness is basically how long you can train for a period longer than 20 minutes.
Muscular Strength: How much maximum force your muscles can exert through different exercises.
Muscular Endurance: how long or capacity the maximum force your muscles are exerting through activity.
Flexibility: is the ability of a joint to move through a full range of motion.
Body Composition: is the ratio of lean body mass to fat body mass.
What are the six areas of skill related fitness? Give a brief definition?
Agility: ability to change and control direction and position of the body while in a constant fast motion.
Balance: be able to control or stabilize the body when a person is standing still or moving.
Power: is the ability to move the body parts swiftly while applying the maximum force of the muscles.
Speed: able to move your body or parts of your body swiftly.
Coordination: is the ability to use the senses together with body parts during movement.
Reaction Time: is the ability to reach or respond quickly to what you hear, see, or feel.
What is meant by healthy lifestyle? The ability to follow Good nutrition, daily exercise and adequate sleep are the foundations for a healthy lifestyle.
What major muscle is affected by cardiovascular training? The heart and lungs.
Explain briefly the aerobic and anaerobic and provide an example of each?
Aerobic Fitness: is endurance, or the ability to sustain work for prolonged periods. Example would be to be able to run, walk, swim, etc. at a high rate for prolong time of 12 or more minutes.
Anaerobic Fitness: exercise consisting of slow rhythmic movements against a force. Example would be weight lifting, stretching.
Calculate your THR using the Karvonen method, show work. 60% of Target HR.
191 – 72 x .60= 143 b.p.m.
What are the principles of training and give an example of using one of them in improving a health related fitness component? The principles of training are: specificity, overload, recovery, adaptation and reversibility. An example would be in recovery having the right amount of rest in order for the body to allow the adaptation to take place
What is meant by FITT and why is it important? FITT is Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type. It is important because you need to know how often, how hard, how long, and what kinds of activity you should perform to build health and fitness.
Why and how do we warm up and cool down? It is very important to warm up the body before exercising. This aids the performer in preparing physiologically and psychologically for exercise, reducing the chance of joint and muscle injury. The cool down period of an exercise session is just as important as the warm up. The aim is to decrease the intensity of the aerobic session and to return the body to a state of rest. You warm up by walking or jogging or doing static or dynamic stretching. You cool down by stretching static to delay muscle soreness or lactic acid build up, or walk or jog if you had been running to control you breathing under control.
What are the various types of stretching and provide an example of each?
Dynamic stretching: Butt Kickers
Static Stretching: Bend and touch your toes
Ballistic Stretching: bounce stretching, “but you should never do or teach.”
What type of stretching is currently in vogue and why? The type of stretching that is in vogue would be I believe is static stretching because YOGA is a trend or Fad or commercial fitness that many people take up for fitness.
What are the three types of muscular training and which is most common? Strength training, endurance training, power training. The most common is strength training because a lot of elite athletes in sports do a lot of strength training to build muscle.
What is somatotyping and list the three most often used body types. Somatotyping is where people are born with an inherited body type based on skeletal frame and body composition. The three most often used body types are: ectomorphs, endomorphs, and mesomorphs.
Body composition refers to the ratio between ? and ? Lean body mass and fat body mass.
How does this affect your healthy lifestyle? This affects your healthy lifestyles because the more fat body mass you have the harder is to move your body to do rigorous physical activity because and abundance of fat surround your muscles and make them harder to operate.
What are the major nutrients that supply the energy the body needs to perform daily tasks? Protein, Fat, vitamins, minerals, and water are major nutrients that supply energy to the body to perform daily tasks.
Of the nutrients that do not provide energy, what one “nutrient” is considered the single most important and why? Protein is the single most important because it is responsible for the building and repair of body tissues.
Strengthening what area of muscles is important to back health? Abdominals, gluteus maximus muscles, and hips.
Now for the difficult questions
How could you use the results of the fitness tests to plan future lessons? How I could use the results of a fitness test to plan future lessons is to see what area my class needs improvement on and work that special area more, but also not forget about the other core levels as well that we would need to maintain.
Give an example of a California State Model Content Standard that is specific to” fitness” (any grade level) and how you would teach it? Standard 2 for High School: Students achieve a level of physical fitness for health and performance while demonstrating knowledge of fitness concepts, principles, and strategies. How I would Teach it would be to use results for a fitness test and set goals for the class, have the class do a report on ways to stay healthy, do a wellness plan.
Write a question that deals with your topic area. What is one way to improve your cardiovascular fitness?
What fun activity could you create to help improve one of the aspects of health related fitness? A fun activity I could create to improve and aspect of health related fitness would be create a game that has all the aspects tied together with cardio, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition to get them to work and challenge themselves while also having fun.
Thinking back over the class (This WILL NOT affect your grade, we just want to make this the best class for you. In my reflection of this class I know what I would change, but we need your input.)
Is this a worthwhile class? This class was a worthwhile class and was fun and exciting and learned new things and also a refresher on previous things that I have earned in the past, and Professor’s Zambetti and Sawyer both gave excellent feedback and how to go about teaching in the real world.
What did you like? Not like? I loved everything about the class from teaching and being able to learn from my peers as well from my instructors. There was not one thing in the class I did not like. Did we achieve the course objectives? I believe the instructors both nailed the course objectives and provided more as well.
Should we change these objectives? Or stress something more or less? I don’t think you need to provide more or less or stress any one thing more or less.
Regarding the fitness portion, what topics should we not include and what topics should be added? I believe everything was covered in class and things should not be added or taken out from the course.
How would you assess (grade) if you were teaching this class? How I would assess the class If I were teaching were to make sure the students were prepared for their teaching with lesson or unit plan, etc. and If they really put the effort in for their teaching.
