Kind Words Do Not Cost Much Analysis

Blaise Pascal once wrote “ Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish a fortune.”; this means that it takes nothing to say something nice, but it will mean more to them than we will ever know. In RJ Palacio’s novel Wonder, a kid named August goes to school. He makes some really good friends that make his 5th grade year set a high standard for his following years of school. They pick him up when he’s down and don’t treat him different. They always are there for him, and stick up for him when he is picked on. On page 196, August says “ And now that they’d protected me, I was different to them. It was like I was one of them. They all call me “Little Dude” now, even the jocks.” This means that everyone now likes August. They don’t go out of their way, to walk around him or avoid him, now speak to

He knew that through all the ups and down that he had been through that his mom had his back. He knew that she would forever stick by him. He knew that his mom really loved him with all her heart, and that she wasn’t ashamed of him. This made him feel happy inside. This helped him to not think about what he looked like, but how he made people feel. Baisle Pascal said, “ Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.”; which means that everyone can do this, because it takes no money to say something positive to a person. We can learn that even if people are different, that we should treat them nicely and compliment them on something nice about them, even if it’s as small as “ nice shoes”. They will notice this, and they will appreciate that you said this. They will always remember that one person that said something nice to them, and they will also enjoy getting that compliment.
