I. List of reagents & products 1. 1.0 M Copper(II) nitrate (Cu(NO3)2, 0.10 M Hydrochloric Acid (HCl), 0.010 M Potassium Iodide (KI), 0.040 M Potassium Bromate (KBrO3), 0.0010 M Sodium Thiosulfate (N2S2O3), 2% Starch solution, Water (H2O)
II. Summary of Procedure.
Part 1: Find the Volume of One Drop of Solution 2. Fill pipet with 3ml of distilled water 3. Mass a beaker and record 4. Put 5 drops of water into beaker and record 5. Add 5 more drops and record 6. Add 5 more drops and record 7. Repeat 1-5 two more times
Part 2: Rate Order of KI 1. Get pipets and label them accordingly 2. Fill pipets with 2ml of each liquid 3. Put pipets on a stand 4. Get a well and clean it 5. Use table 1 as a guide and fill wells first well accordingly 6. Do the next 3 wells and repeat step 5 7. Fill wells 7,8, and 9 8. Fill wells 10, 11, and 12 9. Add drops of KBrO3 10. Record time for blue tint to appear 11. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for wells 2 and 3 12. Take temperature of one reaction solution and record 13. Repeat step 8 and 9 for wells 4,5, and 6 and record 14. Repeat step 8 and 9 for wells 7,8, and 9 and record 15. Repeat step 8 and 9 for wells 10,11, and 12 and record 16. Rinse out wells 17. Repeat steps 4-13 for reagent combinations in table 1 for experiments 5,6 and 7
Part 3: Determine Activation Energy 1. Prepare warm water bath (40*celcius) 2. Fill 6 wells with appropriate number of drops of reagents listed in table 1 for experiment 1 3. Place reaction strip in water bath 4. Fill pipet with KBrO3 5. Place pipet in bath for 5 minutes 6. Measure temperature of water 7. Take pipet out and dry it 8. Put KBrO3 into 1st well and record time. Put pipet back in bath 9. Record when solution turns blue 10. Repeat steps 7-9 for wells 2 and 3 11. Remove items from water bath 12. Make
