King Arthur and His Knights Round Table
We have read King Arthur and the knights of the round table. It’s a fantasy/history book. Here is a short summary: After Uther Pendragon’s death, Merlin the druid forms a stone, and in it, a sword. On this sword, it is written that anyone who can pull it out of the stone will become the new king of England. After many years, the young Arthur, (secretly the son of Pendragon), pulls this magical sword out of the stone, and becomes king. Together with Merlin, he constructs a round table, where only the best knights of England may sit.
More and more knights come to join the brotherhood of the Round Table, and each has his own adventures
After many years, The holy knight Sir Galahad, the son of Sir Lancelot, comes to the court of Arthur. With his coming, all knights ride throughout Europe for the search of the Holy Grail of Jesus Christ. Only four knights see the Grail: Sir Lancelot, Sir Percival, Sir Bors de Gaunnes and Sir Galahad.
After the Grail is found, the last battle of the Round Table is close-at-hand. In this battle, many knights die and with them, King Arthur, his nephew Sir Gawain, and also, Mordred, the wicked son of King Arthur and his half-sister Morgana le Fay.
King Arthur is buried at Avalon, the secret island of the druids and damsels.

A remarkeble quote from the book was; ‘and herewith I make you a knight. Go forward as you have begun, and there will be a place waiting for you at the Round Table. And I hold that you will be one of the truest knights in all the Realm of Logres, and one of the gentlest and most valiant.’ Said Launcelot to Gareth of Orkney.’
We decided to choose this quote because Gareth of Orkney was a kind of an outsider. When he came to Arthur’s castle, they were making fun of him, and bullied him. But even after everything he has been to, he made it to a Knight of the round table.

Next thing you are going to see, are some pictures that deal with the book. We used some pictures from the movie King Arthur. We thought that these pictures were the most matching pictures we could find. You are going to see some pictures of the main characters and more.

He is described as a man, “None had seen...with sight in that hall so grand” (197). Immediately he asks for the leader of the house to which he extends his request for a contest to King Arthur. Shortly after, the unnamed knight reveals the rules of the game. Carl Martin, in his essay, “The Cipher of Violence,” elaborates, “ The Green Knight reveals here that while the typical warrior-noble engineers his aggrandizement through public displays of prowess… he is also bound by a strict code of behavior meant to restrain and refine his aggression” (312). So too, the knights of the round table and the entire court of Camelot are bound to the same laws of courtesy. They cannot demand bloodshed, however, in the guise of a game, it can be desired, even more so, required, for the sake of entertainment. In time, Gawain accepts the challenge in the King’s stead, takes the ax and, “Brought it down deftly upon the bare neck” (420). This is the moment the court has fantasized about, the instant when courtesy is exchanged for violence. Given that the court has treated the unnamed knight with all the courtesy they possess, they are now allowed to ensure he dies nobly at the hands of one of their own, in the sight of all who dare to watch. “The blood gushed from the body, bright on the green/ Yet fell not the fellow, nor faltered a whit (429 - 430). Instead of completing their fantasies of violence however, the Green Knight survives…

When we hear the word knight, we imagine Arthurian-tales of glorious battles between men and dragons, fierce jousting competitions, rivalries between kingdoms, and knightly chivalry. Several of these tales center on the bravery of knights against mighty foes or on their ability to resist earthly temptations. Sir Gawain is the nephew of King Arthur and is a knight of the round table. He appears in more Arthurian-tales than any other knight and is known as the ideal that all knights should strive for. (Joe) In the Arthurian-Legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Sir Gawain faces many challenges and his decisions based on those challenges shape him into the Knight that many know now.…

Medieval times were a time when honor was valued above all other qualities. All knights, the highest models of medieval manhood, adhered to a code of chivalry. When properly followed, this code allowed men to be truly honorable. Among the qualities most highly esteemed were integrity, loyalty, and courage. The clearest examples of chivalry were King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The Pearl Poet vividly illustrates the concepts of chivalry in his epic poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, where Sir Gawain is characterized as a very honorable, chivalrous knight. Throughout the poem, Gawain’s unceasing commitment to his code of chivalry provides a protection against, thus proving the value and necessity of chivalry.…

A knight is someone who is looked upon to be brave, mature and wise in his understandings. He should be strong in his courage when it comes time to defeat the enemy, as in the tale Beowulf. Beowulf looks to be brave and strong when he goes in to fight Grendel and after he has defeated him and his mother. That outlook on who a knight is to be is twisted in the tale Monty Python. The knights in Monty Python ride on imaginary horses and argue over pointless things and seem as if they are just spilling out the first thing that pops to their minds. Sometimes the argument will start off on one thing and be something entirely different by the end.…

The legend of King Arthur can be traced as far back as the fourth and fifth centuries. But the earliest tales of Arthur were almost nothing like they are today. There were no wandering minstrels, or ladies–in–waiting, or knights in shining armor taking on bold quests to defend their ladies. Instead, there were tales of giants, and magic cups, and invaders from a foreign land. In some ancient versions of the legend, Arthur is a hero whose deeds are comparable to those of Hercules. In more modern versions, he is merely a king whose knights are the real heroes of the story. The earliest tales of Arthur were spread largely by word of mouth, and very few written accounts survive. Of the ones that do, we do not have the original documents, only copies…

If King Arthur really existed he was more than likely a general who defended Britain. In the famous Arthurian tale Arthur pulls a sword from a stone proving his lineage and that he was worthy of the throne of Britain. The kingdom of Camelot is thought to be based on an actual place in Britain, most likely Cadbury Castle but many scholars site other possible locations as the place of his kingdom. Modern historians believe that King Arthur's kingdom was simply a legendary utopia in contrast to the harsh depiction of the Middle Ages of violence and disease. In 1890 the monks of Glastonbury are said to have uncovered a hollow log containing the bodies of King Arthur and his queen Guinevere and a cross with a Latin…

It is the story of a quest of the grail used to annex the blood of Christ. Before the knights find the Holy Grail they must demonstrate to themselves faithfulness and true knightly hood of the Christian faith. Those who have done wrong must try to ask forgiveness and change their ways, such as Lancelot tries to do, but fails to do so because he has too corrupt a nature to alter his path. Even those who have never been sinful must confess and follow in the Lord's path to find the Holy Grail. This is a very earnest story that teaches those who listen to repent and to be righteous. It encompasses a period of history of the Christian religion, which I feel in my life experience is rarely talked about. During this historical era, religion had as much authority over a person as their king, if not more. People attended church as much as they possibly could. I have found that some relate to these simpler times as better than now because at least then people took time to spend in religious undertakings and did not have to spend every waking minute working or recovering from working.…

The newly crowned King Arthur promised to rule justly, to right all wrongs, and to bring peace and prosperity to his kingdom. Soon after his coronation, he gathered an army and drove out the invaders and restored land to its rightful owners. He set up his court at Camelot and built a strong castle. He was surrounded by his family – his mother, Igrayne, his sister, Anna, and his half-sister, Morgan le Fay. Under the guidance of Merlin, the magician, he had many more adventures, like fighting Sir Pellinore and obtaining the magical sword “Excalibur” from the Lady in the Lake at Avalon. He soon married Guinevere and summoned his best knights to gather at a great round table. They became known as the Knights of the Round Table. Unfortunately, as peace settled over the country things turned sour within the court of Camelot. The King’s best friend, Sir Lancelot, was in love with the Queen, so Arthur had him banished. Then, Mordred, Arthur's traitorous nephew, overtook Camelot and tried to force Guinevere to marry him. In a final battle both Arthur and Mordred were fatally wounded. Arthur’s body was set upon a boat and floated down river to the isle of Avalon.…
